Working on a school project with the kids. Have to come up with a display about Minnesota and tourism, why people would want to come here. I am looking to use props - postcards, magnets, "souvenir" type stuff with this display.

So, especially for those of you who don't live in MN, what do you think of when you think of MN? And please, no Jesse jokes, I am looking for stuff we can actually use at school;)

Thanks

I've never been there, but the two things I think of first are Little House on the Prairie and Grumpy Old Men. I must visit Minnesota vicariously through the entertainment industry. ;) But even I know that on Christmas in Minnesota there aren't green leaves on all the trees (watch any Little House winter episode). :D

tkyes, Fishbone†, Minnesota! and a bunch of others are from there. I'm sure they could help a little bit.

Don't laugh but I think of the program Golden Girls.. and wasn't Betty White's character from Minnesota.. and is there something about moccasins??? and snow.. I think of snow.

I know there are other here from MN...I live in MN too, I am just wanting an "outsider's" perspective...what pops into people's minds when they think about MN in general or travelling to MN.

MM--- I was wondering how long it would take for someone to mention the dreaded "s" word:p

Minnetonka Moccasins! Especially the high top boot moccasins! :p

I immediately thought of lakes and I thought about Grumpy old men! Don't forget about the mighty Mississippi!!!!

10,000 Lakes
Mall of America (and Camp Snoopy... Rainforest Cafe... Planet Hollywood... the train display... etc)
Minneapolis/St Paul
Lots of little towns
Variety in the seasons - hot summers, cold winters
The Minnesota State Fair

And a couple of more "unique to myself" ones:
Old Navy ;)
All the DISers that live in MN
The fact that it's a little bit south from here :teeth:
Borders Canada :teeth:
Kare 11 News :p (We get Minnesota coverage up here)

Snow (sorry) and, being a hockey fan, the NHLs Minnesota Wild, which is the parent organization of our AHL Houston Aeros (their logo is my avatar). I check the Wild's website every now and then, especially when one of our guys gets called up :D

Hi! I have a few relatives that live "up" there. The first thing that comes to my mind is mosquitos, ticks and leeches in lakes! Not too good for tourism. But, I guess being the outdoorsy type, camping and canoeing. We like to go skiing when we visit. And I love Lake Superior, in the summer!!! But, that probably has sentimental reasons. Now, of course snow comes to mind too.

Thanks! I had quite a few of what you all said so far...just wasn't sure what the rest of the country thought of when they thought "Minnesota".

Please keep the creative juices flowing!!

The Twins
Mall of America
The downtown area being connected with "skywalks" (is that what they call them?). We don't have those in California.

Many of mine have been listed. It's a beautiful state and I've enjoyed visiting. Still I have to add that the mosquito (state bird?) is what first comes to mind. We were eaten alive one summer at the Walnut Grove Little House play. LOL!
