What categories have steamer trunks?

We had one on our first cruise, which was a category 8, but our second cruise stateroom did not, which was a category 10.

I thought they were so cute and creative, yet functional - best thing in our room!

Does having it depend on room size, layout, or category?

We were in a Cat 8 on our October cruise and did not have a steamer trunk. We have also been in a Cat 5 or 6 and had a steamer trunk on the Wonder. I am not sure if the ships are a little different or if the steamer are just not in every cat 8.

We were in ajoining 10s on the wonder and DID have the trunk. They came in very handy.

My MIL was in a CAT 11 and had a steamer trunk. Her cabin ran parallel to the hall and seemed much larger than ours.

I have stayed in a Cat. 4, 6 and 10 and they all had one. My 3
DS's stayed in 5520 (one of the secret porthole cabins) and they did not have one. I agree - they look great and are very functional.

Here's my theory, which makes sense to me, but I might be completely wrong on this...

If you look at the deck plans, you'll see that some category 5 through 10 staterooms have a straight wall on one side and a wall the indents in and out on the other side. The headboard of the master bed is on the straight wall. The closet and other storage are on the opposite wall (with the indentations). The steamer trunk goes in the recessed space created by the indentation.

However, there are also some category 5 through 10 staterooms that have straight walls on both sides, with no recessed space for a steamer trunk. If they tried to put a steamer trunk opposite the bed, there wouldn't be enough room between the bed and the steamer trunk. So such rooms don't have steamer trunks.

If that's true, then, for example, SPR rooms 5020 and 5520 don't have steamer trunks, but SPR rooms 2022, 5024, 5522, and 5524 have steamer trunks.

Of course, this theory can only apply if the deck plan drawings are accurate.

In category 11 and 12 staterooms, the headboard of the bed is normally on the wall opposite the door, not on a side wall. Such rooms don't need an indentation to accomodate a steamer trunk. So, I assume that normal category 11 and 12 staterooms all have steamer trunks.

I don't have a theory about the larger category 1 through 4 staterooms.

Does anyone have evidence to support (or to shoot down) this theory?

We stayed in cat 9 2584 and had one but our friends were in cat 9 2588 and did not have one.

Room 2012, category 9 DOES have a steamer trunk, and I agree -- it's a very handy thing.

This supports my theory.

On the deck plan, 2584 has a wall with indentations in one wall. You confirmed that 2584 has a steamer trunk.

On the deck plan, 2588 has two straight walls. You confirmed that 2588 has no steamer trunk.

It looks like an old fashioned steamer trunk, standing on its end, with its "top" facing forward so that it swings open like a door. There are shelves inside. It's actually a tall dresser that just looks like a steamer trunk.

It's a useful and versatile storage space.

One of the reasons we booked a cat 10 for our next cruise was the trunk and the fact that most 11s don't have one from what we were told be friends in that category. 7503 has an indentation so I sure hope that it has a trunk. I fit all of my clothes & DH's in that trunk and the kid's clothes went in the desk drawers & the stand by the closet.

I was in 2514 once (cat 9) & no trunk (yet indent on the wall in the drawing). Boy, did I get blank looks from the room steward whwen I asked about it - like he didn't know what I was talking about! Also I have been in cat 4 x2 and they have extra large ones in those rooms (re: these rooms accomodate 5 people, hence more stuff to put in them). Please post your room numbers (not just category) if you didn't have one. I am trying to make myself a list of rooms I don't want.
Thanks,

We will be in cabin 6076 (4/3/04 Magic). Does anyone know if this cabin has a steamer trunk in it?
