I have an ADR for May, and can't seem to find too much about it except for the menu.

Is it a "guys" restaurant? We were looking for comfortably elegant w/ good food, it seemed to fit the bill, but now I'm not sure.

I read that is was kind of "testosterony" atmosphere!

Any thoughts?

Thanks.

The food is utterly excellent.

There is a masculine feel to the decor.

We have never been, but everyone we know who has says don't go..it is not worth it.

Agreed, on both points. In terms of decor, think "his lordship's study at the manor." Which for me was fun, but it's essentially the complete opposite of, say, 1900 Park Fair.

Beware of two things:
1) The price fits the quality - IMO, it's worth it, but you will spend BIG bucks here.
2) The portions are equally "masculine" - when I went a couple years ago, the smallest steak offered was the 12oz filet.

I'ts great but not cheap.

I found it had a very formal feel to it. When we went there were a lot of conventions going on, so there were quite a few people eating there on business, which probably made it feel less relaxed.

The steaks were excellent, but it was very expensive. I love a good steak, but I prefer to cook them myself at home, it's much cheaper and I can cook them exactly as we like them (we both like blue, and most restaurants overcook them).

Our conclusion after the meal was that we probably wouldn't bother going back again, as there are so many places with a more relaxed atmosphere and more interesting food.

I did not find Shulas overly expensive. It is a high end steak house and is priced in line with it's competition. There were many couples and familys when we went but there is certainly the feel of a gentlemens club with the dark wood and leather. The food was fantastic and service was just as good. We are returning in Aug. The one suggestion I have is to read the menue in the Foyer because the cheesy football menue can be hard to read in the dim light.
