Haven't been to Universal since these attractions opened. What are they? And are they appropriate for a 4 year old?

Thanks for any info!!!

My five year old loved both of these attractions this summer - however, only you can decide if they are appropriate for your child.

The Shrek attraction is a 3D movie and done a lot like the Shrek movie. If your four year old has watched this movie, he/she should enjoy the attraction. It is similiar to other Disney 3D movies, though I think done much better. There is a part where you "feel" like there are spiders crawling around you - neither me or my children noticed this, but I hear you can instruct your child to keep his feet of the floor if you think this would bother them.

The Jimmy Nuetron attraction is a movie that you watch from "moving" seats. It features a lot of Nickelodian (sp) characters like - Spongebob, Rugrats, Arnold, Fairly Odd Parents, ect. I am almost positive any four year old would love it if they watch these show. It is a really cute attraction.

Have fun!!!

Shrek is a hands-down winner that the whole family should enjoy. (Although there have been reports on this board that it scared some small children.)

Tip: Take the time to read all the signage in the queue and the first room. Very funny stuff.

I was less impressed with Jimmy Neutron. I felt it was a step down from the very similar Hanna-Barbera attraction it replaced. The sound is so mushy that it is extremely hard to understand the dialog. On the other hand, reports on this board say that it is a big hit with younger kids. So what do I know?

When you go, get to the park early at 08:15am so you can do these attractions with little wait. Both are at the front of the park, the express pass machine is to the left at the far end of the Jimmy Neutron building. Enter the park and get an express pass for Shrek, then go on it. As you come out, ride Neutron, the wait will be about 10 minutes. The lines quickly grow.

On my visit a week ago, the line for Shrek was over 1.5 hours at 11am, the line for Neutron was 1 hour, and there was a 30 minute wait at the express machine with the time being 4 hours later in the day. Come back later in the afternoon, and I bet you could sell your express passes for a good price. I don't know if it's illegal to do that or not, but the line in the afternoon is rediculous. It would be funny to see how much people would pay to skip the line, especially since most parents have kids with them asking how long they have to wait.

The kids should love Jimmy. Its a 3d motion simulator with all the nick characters.
The shrek is slightly more intense with spiders and the feeling that they are running beneath you, but if you let them know ahead of time and if they are good with this sort of thing then they should be fine. I'm wondering about how my kids will like it next year myself, but they're going to try it anyway.

What can I tell you? That they are both wonderful attractions. Shrek is better than Jimmy, but Jimmy is better than Hanna Barbera IMO. Universal really did a good job on these. My 3 year old LOVED both of these. Even the Shrek spider part, but he loves bugs.....

kelly kelly kelly....

Let's face it, when you're closer to OUR age, Yogi, the Flintstones and the Jetsons ARE cooler than the Rugrats, Spongebob and Jimmy Neutron. But for the kids of the Nick age, like my starstruck kid, there's nothing better!

We won't talk about OUR age again, I promise! :p

If you are staying on-site, do you need an express pass also?? This is all so confusing. I thought you got FOTL if you stayed onsite. Please explain it to me b/c we will be there in March for spring break and want to take advantage of every shortcut possible.!! Thanks

essmom--no, you will not need anything but your room card for FOTL. You will see a separate Express line for almost every attraction. You follow those signs and a ride attendant will ask to see your room card. Sometimes you will need to show this more than once to get on the attraction.

The only thing I didn't like about Jimmy Neutron was the ending. It's a little bit rough on you if you're not expecting it :)

I may only be 15 years old, but I agree that Yogi, Flintstones, and Jetsons are MUCH cooler than the lame Nick characters...LOL. That's why I liked Hanna Barbara better, but I think the ride itself was improved on Jimmy Neutron. Half of the characters on the new ride I only heard of from either my friends watching it (why the heck??? They are in high school!! ) or the kids I babysit watch it.

I HATE the part of the spiders in Shrek! Even though they are animated and it's only air blowing at your feet, I cringe at the thought of those spiders. I cross my legs in my chair and close my eyes during that part...:rotfl: I know, pathetic...but I have a fear of spiders...ALL spiders! :p

But I like Shrek a lot. Very neat. I didn't like it the first time I rode it, but it got better each time. I think I like the preshow better than the ride itself though.

I also agree with Kelly to read the fake posters around the queue. Very, very funny. :)

My little boy 3 at the time, (this summer) LOVED Jimmy, although, after the first time, he REFUSED to ride in the moving seats...... so the next 900 times we rode it, we did the stationary seats. It is GREAT, I really liked it. IMO, it is MUCH better than the HB ride that was there........... guess I'm into the nick characters since I have a little one......... anyway, he liked shrek, but it did scare him a little bit........ not bad, just a little, when it was over he said he liked it, but he wouldn't go on it again.......... I think he just preferred Jimmy, since he LOVES jimmy and spongebob. I think your little one will like them both, and can certainly go on both..... I'd say try it, and see......... shrek was not scary mind you, just a lot going on, and the seats move, and stuff........ don't wanna give too much away....... it is one of my fav. things at Univ. you'll love it. As some have stated though, especially if you are not staying onsite, get to these EARLY........... they get LONG lines.

Have fun................ can't wait till Nov........ when we go back!!!!
