Hi,
We are staying at AKL for our next trip and would like to know what sort of things they sell in the resort shop there and roughly what the prices are. Particularly fresh milk, juice, cereals, nappies, swim nappies and other basic foods.

We are not driving and have no intention of going to Walmart or similar, we are also toying with the idea of getting a garden grocer order delivered but just wanted to know what our options are.

Thanks in advance :goodvibes

If you're looking to buy one or 2 items then I'd say it's not a biggy. If you're looking to do a decent sized shop I'd definitely go for Garden Grocer.

I don't remember seeing nappies but that's probably because I don't have a kiddie, but the store is basically a few chilled cabinets with drinks, a very small frozen section and then a few shelves for grocery type stuff. It's really not very big and more like the grocery options you'd find in a small petrol station over here.

There's a list somewhere of the DVC groceries you can buy, including prices, lemme see if I can find that for you. I do seem to remember off the top of my head a bottle of coke (1.5L I think) costing $3.50.

Grr, ok, annoyingly it's a pdf that you download from the DVC site but you need to be logged in to see/download it. Will just pop in some examples then but if there's something specific you're after just shout and I can look at the list.

This is specifically for the AKL store:-

Entenmann's Powdered Mini Donuts 10 oz - $2.99

Entenmann's Chocolate Chip Muffins 8 oz. - $3.99

Maxwell House Instant Coffee Regular 2 oz. - $4.75

Lipton Tea Bags 16 qty. - $1.95

Sugar 20 oz. - $3.95

Equal-Sweetener Packets 50 qty. $4.75

Arnold's White Bread 24 oz. - $3.69

Minute Maid Orange Juice ½ gallon - $4.49

Smuckers Strawberry Preserves 12 oz. - $3.25

Pop Tarts Cinnamon 8 pk - $5.50

Dasani Water 1.5 liter - $3.50

Zephyrhills Water 1 gal. $2.95

Kellogg's Frosted Flakes 14 oz. - $7.75

Kellogg's Rice Krispies 9 oz. - $6.75

Kellogg's Variety Pack 10 pk - $7.75

Whole, fat free or 1% Milk ½ gallon - $2.95

Aunt Jemima Pancake and Waffle Mix 16 oz. $2.95.

Coffee Mate French Vanilla 16 oz - $2.95

Tonic Water 1 liter - $2.95

Coke etc 2 liter - $3.50

Fresh fruit - $1.29 a piece

No mention of nappies/diapers I'm afraid though.

Hope that helps!

We are ordering from garden grocer, but i was quite surprised at the price of certain things, coffee and tea bags we have decided to take due to the price.

Off site is MUCH cheaper, but if you don't want to be making a trip to the supermarket under pressure when you arrive, then you are wise to take your own basics or order them in.

I don't hire a car and previously took those multi packs of mini Kelloggs cereal boxes and some snacks with. I won't be taking anything in the way of food this year as I seriously underestimated the quantity of food on the QSDP (it was brand new when we tried it so not enough reviews to realise this). We are doing QSDP again and I know that I can even get whatever I need for DDs gluten free needs onsite with no problems. Before that I simply took the cereals because I could get a pack of 8 for £1 on special here and they cost $2 per box in the food courts.

I also take a few individually/twin wrapped laundry tablets with for the washing machines. I only wash once or twice while there. We always buy clothes anyway when we go shopping.

The shops sell limited supplies of nappies but they are expensive - take your own.

Look out for offers on the little swimmers - they will be cheaper than buying them there then. Tesco did have some money off last week.

Thanks everyone for the great replies :thumbsup2
We have the free DDP so we wont need much just a few bits for my son who will be approx 13 months at the time (he's still in my belly!) I was thinking nappies, swim nappies, milk (I was planning on taking my own cereals and snacks) just for his brekkie, he can share off my plate the rest of the time.
I just don't fancy taking a suitcase full of nappies so maybe a garden grocer order would be better or maybe take half of the nappies and buy half in the resort shop.
Thanks again for the great replies, loads to think about :goodvibes

Just a thought, since your baby will be at toddler stage when you are there, he will probably be drinking from a sippy cup at that stage. Whether you order things to be delivered or take your own, you may find you thank yourself for having some form of fairy liquid with you for rinsing those cups. I dont actually take the liquid in liquid form but I mix a strong solution with a bit of water and soak some of those cheap blue and white kitchen cloths in it, then dry them out. They hardly weigh a thing and don't take up much space (I cut them into 4 and treat them as disposables). We always get the resort mugs and rinsing them under water only in the food court does not clean them as well as I like. ;)

The last packet of Diapers I brought at WDW were actually cheaper than the last bag at brought in England, I couldn't believe how expensive they were on my last visit to see my Dad.

We've been out with nappies when DD was 23 months - the good thing is at least you know there will be plenty of space in your case to bring things back.

You won't need to take milk - he will be able to drink cow's milk by then, plus he will rpobably only have it on cereal and maybe a cup before he goes to bed.

Thanks, all these replies are so helpful! I especially like the idea of filling a suitcase with nappies so that it is empty on the way home, would be good for all that shopping...:cool1:
Didn't even consider fairy liquid to wash the sippy cup....thanks :thumbsup2

We will always use garden grocer.

IMO it's worth it purely for bottled water alone!

$7 for 32 bottles! Even adding on the $12 delivery fee you are still only $19 and when its $3/bottle in the parks that's a no brainer for me.

Minimum spend is $25, but we don't get DP, so we add in snacks, breakfast food etc. etc. :)
