Our past trips have been mostly late Feb. and the first week of March with one week in early Nov. The impending birth of our second grandchild mid March 2005 has forced us to re-schedule the next trip to Jan. 1 to 10. Is there anything special going on at WDW then? Are crowds really as light as I've been led to believe? Will I have to bring my thermal underwear with me?

It will be a little nippy but I think the thermal underwear should be able to remain at home :) If you have been in February you have been in the "cold" season. February is usually colder than January.

As for the crowds you have been led to believe correctly. January 1st may still be a little crowded, but not nearly as crowded as the week before and as you get into the 2nd and 3rd you will see the crowds just disappear and you will be among the locals and very little else. The parks really die out...it is the PERFECT time to come :)

We visited from Jan. 8-10 this year and other than some very cool weather and higher crowds for the day of the marathon, it was fantastic. Even that coolest Sunday I had a sweatshirt and mittens but had them off by midday. The rest of the time it was t-shirt weather. There were even people at the pool at the BWV. The crowds were non-existent. My favorite times normally are the first of week of December for the holiday festivities and October for the F & W festival but January is now 3rd on the list if we aren't going for one of the holidays. We had a great time.

We are going at the same time!!! I think January will be a lot like Decemeber and last Decemeber we froze!!! We packed for Florida weather (having lived in the northeast my whole life I was under the assumption that the south NEVER got cold). We wound up buying sweatshirts and even leaving Epcot after sundown because we didnt have blankets for the kids. This year I am packing everything!!!!! Summer clothes and warm clothes, hats, gloves, blankets, heavy coats...... you get the point. It is a good thing we drive!!!!!

Expect anything! That time of year, for me, is a packing nightmare. I know it's a good idea to dress in layers, etc. but you still (or at least I did) need to bring shorts, TShirts, Sweatshirts, jeans, sweat suits, coat/jacket, etc. That time of year means a full suitcase as opposed to a "warm weather or summer trip" where all I take is shorts, swimsuits, TShirts, and summer tops/tanks-leaving space in my suitcase.

That being said, it is pleasant. I am comfortable in jeans and T Shirts most of the time. I don't swim though because I still think its too cold.
