HI! We are going to be in disney from this sunday - next sunday. The first couple of days look like they will be rainy due to T.S. Fay. What are some things we can do as a family in the rain? My kids are too young for DisneyQuest, so that's out. Any other ideas? I suppose it doesn't even have to be at Disney, just in the Orlando area. Thanks!!

P.S. Those who are returning from Disney or are there right now: Will you please alleviate my husband's fears and tell him that there is not a foot of water covering the Magic Kingdom (and the other parks) even though they got a ton of water? I am serious....he thinks we will have to be walking around in swampers. :)

We found Epcot (the future world part, not world showcase) to be a good place to be during the deluge of rain on one of our trips. Since the attractions are arranged in pavillions, you can visit multiple attractions without having to go out in the rain. All the lines are indoors, too, and there's even restaurants in some (like the Land). Also, since most people stayed away, the park was empty.

Living seas had Turtle Talk, the aquarium, and the Nemo ride. That was good for over an hour for us.

The Land has the Circle of Life, Land Ride and sometimes exhibits there.

MK -- not so good in the rain, since the attractions are so short and many are outside. Outside of the parks, I dont know. We spend all our time at WDW when we're in Orlando.

well luckily by sunday fay will be gone from orlando. you will still see occassional thunderstorms, those are pretty much inevitable in disney.

we just grin and bear it, if its raining we just throw on the ponchos and charge on. if they expect lightning they will shut down the outside rides until it passes, usually just 15-20 minutes. so it doenst hurt to get in a line if its short.

if its just raining and no lightning in sight, theyll keep everything open.

We just put on ponchos (sometimes we don't even bother, it's just water) and keep touring. This time of year it's actually nice as it keeps the temp down a bit. We live in a similar climate though, so are used to the rain.

Us to! We just go with it. We're not going to melt!!! I wouldn't suggest that your DH look at the current conditions at Disney though...I did hear from someone yesterday who reported that there is flooding :rotfl: I'm sure that it will be gone by Sunday.

Some of the best days we have had at the parks were in the rain. A few years ago when we were there there was a tropical depression coming through and the AK was pretty empty-we walked on and off Everest 3 times in a row. If there is no lightning then all of the rides should be opened. Just make sure you have rain ponchos and appropriate foot ware. Sneakers are no good in the rain. Invest in a good pair of what ever you are most comfortable in. I have a pair of Keen's that are great! My sis lives in Florida and her kids live in crocs. DH has a great pair of flipflops he got in the surf store in DTD.

If you can't stand being in the rain maybe go shopping or to see a movie at DTD. Have fun! :)

We leave on Wednesday and should be there after a couple of stops on Friday. So you would not advise running shoes?? We wear comfortable shoes (i have my reebok and hubby has his airwalks).

Oh Definately bring your sneakers. We wear Crocs when it rains because we don't want our sneakers to get soaked. But we do wear sneakers most of the time.

Sneakers get wet and start to rub. And depending on how wet an dry pair of socks may not help. If you don't have an extra pair of shoes with you then you have to figure out how to dry them over night. (newspaper if you can find one). One trip we got caught in a down pour on our first night there and found out the hard way about the wet sneakers. Now we always keep a pair of flipflops (or other shoes for wet conditions) and the ponchos in a backpack.

Sneakers are fine for dry days and days with a little downpour, but be prepared for the really wet too!

we just got back yesterday from a week where it rained and poured for 4 days. We got our ponchos on and went to the parks. Most of the rides we walked right on. It was great!

We just got back a few hours ago and were there for the whole brunt of Fay.... we put our Ponchos on and braved the rain/wind and rode as much as we could... lines were a bit shorter  so that made it worth it even though we were bummed about the weather....

Certainly - Downtown has a huge movie theater. After quest you can pop in for a show!

I agree. We just got back yesterday and we jsut put on our ponchos and went. There was not a foot of water in any of the parks.

I agree that Epcot has great places where you could spend a lot of time. SOme of the things in DHS are the same way.
