we are planning to have a 1 night stay at St petes or Clearwater, does anyone have any "must do's/must see's" . and any recommendations for a cool/funky hotel to stay at
I must also say as a neewby that this site is very
addictive and really good fun

I stayed in St Petes in Sept 2005. The best hotel that I can recommend is the Tradewinds Grand Island Resort. Its really nice, directly on the beach with good restaurants within walking distance. As for something to do if you are a beach person I would recommend going to Fort Desota Beach. It has been voted on of the best beaches in the US on various occasions. Other things to do in the area is a place called Shell Island (you get a boat out to the island approx 30 mins, with a bit of luck you see dolphins on the way, as you can guess its and island covered in shells. There is nothing there at all so its a nice place to relax and snorkal) another place that I can recommend is (although have not been to) is Turtle island. I would suggest you look up some of there places on the internet. St Pets really is a nice place to go and if you can go for more that 1 night it would be well worth it.

thanks for the advice,:) we have heard of shell beach and turtle beach, and fancy going to them. Did you go to St John's pass? what's that like/

If You Are At Clearwater I Can Recommend The Little Tug Dolphin Cruise It Was One Of The Best Experiences We Had. They Guarantee Dolphin Sightings Or You Can Go Again For No Charge. When We Were There The Dolphins Were Jumping In The Wake Of The Boat So Close That You Felt That You Could Reach Out And Touch Them My Kids Still Talk About It, There Are Lots Of Dolphin Cruises Available But Most Of Them Just Follow The Little Tug As It Has The Deepest Wake Just Make Sure You Have Fresh Batteries In Your Camera, Mine Gave Up Just As The Dolphins Arrived. Hopefully We Will Get Chance To Go Again In November When We Are Back In The Land Of The Mouse. Also There Is Something On At The Pier Evry Night, I Think Its Called The Sunset Festival

Hope This Gives You Some Ideas

You have to drive over the Sunshine Skyway bridge at St.Petes Bay, it's awesome and the view fantastic.

I was told to do this when I was looking for info on going to see the Tampa Bay Devilrays (maybe something else the OP could consider doing?).

Having looked at pics of it, we're definitely doing the detour on the way to St Pete's :thumbsup2

the trip is based at clearwater marina and is actually called the little toot dolphin adventure, if you put that into google it will bring up the site with all the info on i cant seem to post a link but you should be able to get all the info you need there
hope this helps

If you are in Clearwater please take a trip to the Clearwater Aquarium. It is only small but a lovely place and they do such good work there. There is a lovely little dolphin there called Winter who has lost her tail but they are hoping to make her a prosthetic one. She has totally won my heart.

Sit and watch the sunset :goodvibes

We have some lovely photos from when we were there :thumbsup2

also try the sea screamer at Clearwater beach, it has the thrill of a fast speedboat ride, and also guarantees to see Dolphins or you get another ride till you do, I have done it 3 times and seen dophins everytime. I think it costs abou £10.Well worth it.
