My orignal plans were for August but I was told by my supervisor that all August Vacation days were gone? I was shocked. I always go to WDW in August so why would someone do that:headache: . So I call WDW and try to change my dates from August to July and found out my 2 rooms at the POP would go up $500 each:scared1: . Ok I am squeezing in this trip as it is and adding an extra $1000 to it wasn't going to happen. I had 9 nights at HJMGE suite for about $720 and $1365 for 6 nights at the POP. Leaving my total for lodging now a whooping $2080 roughly. I find a hotel in Old Town (which is down the street from HJMGE where I usually stay) called Suites at Old Town. It's rates for the whole 15 nights with tax and fees $1142. That's a $900+ savings.

Any info on this site??? Thanks

I'm not sure if we stayed at the same place you are talking about. We were at Quality Suites Maingate, which is right next to Old Town. It was nice, but I'm spoiled by staying on property now. We stayed in a 2 bedroom and I think it was about $98/night, but that was in Nov of 05. The pools were clean, rooms were clean, housekeeping fine. Breakfast was a whole different story. Next time, I'll skip the free, overcrowded noisy breakfast and eat cereal in my room.

Well I am not living down there now, but I dont think things have changed much for the better. I know when I was down there Old Town in general was not the greatest place. I know there are people here on the Dis boards that visit there and have a good time. But just knowing the background on the place and its history if you do stay there be careful. It can look nicer in places than it is.

Have you gone to www.windsorhillsrent.com . Its only about 5 mins to Disney and its nice and safe and clean etc etc etc.. You can go to the site and put in your dates and needs .I would also put what you want to pay in the additional comments box. I am sure someone there has a condo that might fit your needs and budget. It would be a world of difference and you would love it!

What time of August are you planning on going though? Mid to late Aug is best when it comes to getting a deal . But give it a try. You might find someone who really needs to rent those dates out . And I can tell you I wouldnt ever stay anywhere else now that I have been there. We love it.

Here is a recent thread about the Suites at Old Town:

I picked some random dates in July for HJME through hotelmartusa.com and they were only charging $930.44 for 14 nights including taxes. It will only allow for 14 nights to be booked on their site at one time, but that is a pretty good price. I have booked through this company before and everything was fine.

Okay can someone please tell what this stand for HJMG. I would love to know.

I know not stay at the suites at old town.

Crazelion-HJMGE is Howard Johnsons Maingate East.

dougsmom98-Was that price for the suite or the regular room? We need the suite.

cinderella73-We are now going in July instead of August now due to some mean people at my job.

dunbarfamily- We stayed at that quality suites a couple of years ago too. The rates have gone up quite a bit since then. But Suites at Old Town and Quality Suite share the busses to and from the parks. It is in front and off to the side of it.

Sorry, it is probably for a regular room. If you need more room. I would really suggest renting a condo or town home. Some people on this site have stayed at Grand Palms. It is pretty inexpensive but much nicer than a hotel room. Here are a couple of examples.

There are so many nice communities to choose from. I gave you Grand Palms because it is among the least expensive.
Good luck.

Avoid the Suite at Old Town at all cost!!! Don't do it.

I would second the recommendation to stay at a condo. It's cheaper in the long run and you each get your own room. We have booked at Grand Palms for 8 nights for a total of $683 for a three bedroom/2 bath condo with a disney themed kids room. I can't get a hotel (without the small critters) for that price.

Have a great trip!

Run away as far and as fast as you can from the Suites at Old Town!!!

Several years (many many many) it was a nice place for families on a budget to stay. But over the past few years it has gone way-way-way down. It has lots of bugs, mold, dirty sheets, more bugs, dirty carpets, holes in the walls, and just dirty. We stayed there one night two years ago and it was not the same place it was before. In one word --- Yuck!
