I am looking for a new cordless telephone. I have always bought Sony, but understand they have stopped making them. Looking for a good quality phone. Anyone have a brand they recommend?

Karen

We have had Sony phones in the past, but they weren't all that reliable for us.

The best cordless phone that we ever had was a Motorola. They stopped making them for a while, but started again about a year ago. That's all we have now and we're very happy with the quality. They have them at Target.

We bought ours from our local phone company. It has a backup battery, so when the electricity goes off, the phone still works.

DO NOT buy a V-Tech phone. We've had 2 and BOTH of them were crap.

We've had our Panasonic for several years now. I couldn't tell you how many times it has been dropped or otherwise abused, and it still works great.

We have a Panasonice for over 5 years, and it works great. Good sound quality.

Switched to all wireless (cell phones), no land lines about 8 months ago. If you can swing it it's the way to go!

Edit: tried to delete, I orignally thought you meant cell phone! ;)

BTW, if you switch to all cellular phones and something like the blackout during the summer happens, you won't have any phone at all. Same with a power outage and all cordless phones.

We recently, within the last month, bought new home phones. We decided on Motorola (sorry I don't remember exactly what model). We were specifically looking at expandable phone units because we have one specific room we wanted to add a phone to that didn't have a phone jack. These are great. You only have to have one jack to plug it into, and can have up to four additional handsets. The base unit also has speaker phone. All the handsets have a handsfree button which will turn them into speaker phones, or you can plug a headset mic into them (which our phones came with). They have call waiting and caller id. They have a programmable phonebook and you have the option of assigning special rings to the people in your phonebook. There is an intercom system between the base and all of the handsets. I am sure there are other features I am forgetting. In general we are very happy with the phones. We had been looking around for awhile, and finally saw these at BJ's I think the cost was about $140 for the base unit (with answering machine and one handset attached) and 1 additional handset.

I use to work in the electronics dept of Sears and we got the most returns and exchanges on Sony phones. Sony can make some good electronics but when it comes to phones I think they are missing something. We have a Uniden that works perfect for us.

V-tech is no good!! There is also this new brand out called Xact...I got one the sound level is so terrible...every time I talk to someone on it...I'm always saying "huh what? can't hear ya?"...this really annoys companies when ya call them, especially the telephone company!! I had a really good one though....it was actually a GE...I loved it had great sound reception and yaddy yaddy yaddy!! To bad lightning struck our lines and burnt out every phone on the block!!! I was mad!

Lots of folks with traditional land phones lost service during the blackout too. They aren't imune to those risks either.

I have the Motorolla Mickey cordless. I like the Mickey part of it, but it's very sensitive. If I yawn or sneeze, my cheek turns the phone off.
