Can any recent cruisers tell me if there is a good selection of beach toys to buy on board the ship? I'm trying to decide if I need to bring ours from home.

Thank you for any information!

Hmmm....we were on the 5/20 Magic and, honestly, I don't remember seeing one beach toy for sale onboard. I do recall seeing plenty on sale at Castaway Cay, though.

I know I have read where people often leave there sand toys on C.C. instead of lugging them back, is there a central location where you can take a few and return or do you have to buy them?

Just an idea... I save caps to laundry detergent and also butter tubs, etc. Things like this make great sand castles, and can be pitched when we are done. Since CC is really the only place we spend beach time, it's not worth it to spend a bunch of money on toys and haul them all that way to just be used once.

If you leave your sand toys at CC they go in the collection at Scuttle's Cove for the kid's clubs.

Unfortunately, my kids main project for the cruise is to build as many sand castles as they can in all the ports, so waiting for CC isn't an option for me. Those are great ideas about the caps and butter tubs -- and they aren't very big. I'll definitely try to add some to our collection. Thanks for the suggestions!

Ha! I was just wondering the same thing! After doing 5 childless cruises, we now have a 21 month old to share the fun w/, and I never paid attention to the toys. I was just wondering about bringing regular toys for her to play w/ too. I'm sure we'll be sooo busy, she'll be occupied. My DH has one of those ipods that we can download pics and movies to, so we'll bring that along for her. She's a book fanatic too, but I don't want to lug those along. I think it will be IMPOSSIBLE to even take her in the stores. She'll want it all. At the beginning of the summer, I bought her some sand toys, etc. and the VERY next day my M-I-L's neighbor was getting rid of a ton of her granddaughter's toys, so she said to feel free to garbage pick! I now have 5 or so little shovels, hoes, etc., that I can leave at CC if we want. I think that will be all she needs is one of each and a little bucket.

We bring a few extras (from Target's end of summer clearance sale ;) ) so that there is enough for the kids that always seem to come play with the kids.

We get Shirley at theperfectgift.cc to make one of her amazing pails, full of the kids favorite things. Seems to be quite relative to the high $$$ on the cruise...I would rather go this route..ANd, they think it straight from the mouse. :tiptoe: :earsgirl: :earsboy:

Shirley's is a great idea or you can purchase a set at CC. Scuttles will check them out to you also, but they have a VERY limited supply so would not count on this.

I am definitely going to order from Shirley! I just wondered what else they have on board ship or at CC that are disney themed. Two years ago, we were able to get large shovels with Mickey-shaped handles, and Pooh "forms" to make castles. Since digging in the sand is such a big part of our excursions, I wanted to know if there was anything cool that I should be on board, or bring some with me to add to what Shirley does.

Thank you!

We were on the May 27th double scoop so I decided that 2 days at CC justified the hassle of bringing sand toys. I found a good selection at Toys-R-Us. I bought DS6 a kit that included 6 or 7 sand toys in a plastic backpack. I believe it cost $4.99. I also bought a little snorkle set which easily fit in the backpack. I managed to hide it while packing, and it didn't take up too much room is the extra duffle bag we always bring. We gave it to him as a present on our first morning at CC. He loved it, and the backpack meant he could carry everything himself. There were several varieties of sand toys available for purchase on CC. However, they were very expensive and I didn't notice any specifically themed to Disney.

I was also at Target this afternoon, and found sand toy sets 50% off. They come in clear plastic zippered bags with 5-6 toys in each bag. The bags have handles that would make it easy for a small child to transport to and from CC. They had two sets to choose from, one with a dump truck and shovels etc. and one with a sifter and shovels. Target also had a small soft sided cooler that will fold and fit inside a suitcase, perfect for several cans of pop, ice, or 5/6 water bottles( or ice in the room) I just love a bargin! :thumbsup2

I saw Disney themed sand pails and molds at my Dollar Tree (NC). They also had Disney Princess markers, stickers, and lip balm. -Donna

LOL! I still have the stuff from last year for our DD but the kids would LOVE these so I will go by DT tomorrow. :)

You know...it would be nice to have a big lime green tub somewhere so that DISers could leave sand toys for the DISers on the next cruise. :)

I wish our Dollar Tree had Disney theamed ones! I was just there tonight and all they had were the regular old plain ones. I guess now I will need to check a few other Dollar Tree's in the area!

We took of bunch of beach toys with us when we were on the Magic, but we also used them all day in Cozumel. We left them at CC.
