We are staying at Southern Dunes. Im thinking about taking a trip to the beach. Anyone have a suggestion of what beach? TIA

Southern Dunes is about 20 mins south of Disney.

I'm not sure where Southern Dunes is located. What I can tell you is that the beaches change dramatically the farther south you travel in Florida. I have visited daytona a number of times and thought it was a neat place and a nice beach. then we were invited to visit friends in West Palm and visited the beach there. Wow, i couldn't believe i was in the same state. the water was aqua blue and clear and beautiful, like on the islands. So, if you are looking for a nice beach travel south as much as you can. About 3 hours from orlando to West Palm. i don't know about the gulf coast.

Are you looking to just relax and enjoy the beach? Looking for beach related activities? Or seashells? This would all make a difference in where to go.

If you are looking for the best beach then Clearwater and St.Petes cannot be beat in my opinion.

The likes of Cocoa and Daytona are much closer to where you are but for quality the west coast beaches are so much nicer.

I think either Clearwater or Siesta Key both look fabulous from what I have read (keep in mind I have not been to either). Caladesi Island..near Clearwater has gotten some good ratings as far as beaches go.

JohnnySharp2...have you ever been to Caladesi Island? I was thinking of stopping there while at clearwater...wondering if it is worth the money to get there(ferry). It looks beautiful!

Thanks,

I've been to Caladesi, and it's kind of a pain to get to. We loved it and will go back, but if we just had one day we might go somewhere else. Or we would go there and not try to go anywhere else on the same day.

Sand key park looked nice. We liked the far end of st pete beach, but the name is escaping me right now.

Siesta Key beach is worth a trip!

My vote is for Siesta Key. We spent two weeks there last month and it was paradise.
In 2004 we spent a week in Daytona. It is fine, but you cannot compare the quality of the beaches.
We loved Siesta Key so much we have booked another 2 weeks for later this year. It is about a two hour drive from Disney.
