What are your thoughts on this statement (from a teacher)?

My DS is in elementary school, fifth grade to be exact and he came home and told us that his teacher told the class the following while studying about 9/11. He said the teacher said if all the political leaders of the world were woman that the war would be over in 30 days. Whether this is the exact words of the teacher or not I can not be sure, but it was my son's interpretation of what was said.

So what are your thoughts?

I say right around 28 days. A woman with PMS is nothing to mess with.

I teach school and love the saying that a fellow educator used at parent orientation.

"If you don't believe half of what they say about us when they get home, we won't believe half of what they say about you when they get to school"

I'm hoping it was a (poor attempt at a) joke!

And, of course, much gets lost in translation between the classroom and home.

I admit that we say things like that over lunch at work when it is "just us girls" but a teacher of young kids really shouldn't be saying that in the classroom. It may be okay in high school, if used to intentionally to spark a debate.

I would have to know the context in which it was said before I could or would get upset about it. Sounds like a statement made in a joking way to me. Might not have been the best joke to make, but not that horrible either.

But had a male teacher degraded females would you feel the same way? Both are in bad taste as far as I am concerned.

A gf's son made a "Boys Rule" t-shirt after the teachers were talking about how inspiring some girl's shirt was "girls rule." He was lectured and made to turn it inside out because it was considered sexual harassment.

Sounds like an off the cuff remark that is neither good or bad. If you make a big deal out of it, your son will think it is a big deal, if you just say "oh" and drop it, it will be forgotten by tomorrow.

Now, when he gets married and sees that his wife is better at negotiations, finding things and solving problems, the comment might come back to him and it will be a light bulb moment for him. :rotfl2:

Ita, i took it to mean that us girls are better at being diplomatic and would try to find a better solution than bombing folks. Nothing crass or tacky about that... just the truth :thumbsup2 ;)

I don't think that there is anything about September 11th that a teacher should be "making a joke" about. Or anyone for that matter.

Sounds like an interesting question for a debate!

My response to those type of statements is always, "So what do you think?"

That is the perfect response!

I've said that all of my life and totally agree with that statement. It would be over in 30 days and then we can concentrate on things that REALLY matter instead of whose is bigger... :p

I've been looking for a few minutes, but can't find the exact quote online. I believe it might have been a reference to or variation of something Eleanor Roosevelt said. I think it was something along the lines of, "If we could get all the mothers of the world to talk, there'd never be another war."
