We are planning our HM and just wondering which resort restaurants are on your "must do" list?

What's the reason why you like it so much-food, theming, entertainment?

Favorite dishes that you would recommend for our "never beens"?

Breakfast, lunch, or dinner?

Please list CS, buffet, TS-doesn't matter!

For our next trip, we have planned to do:
-Boma dinner (AKL-been before)
-Artist's Point dinner (WL-never been!)
-1900 Park Fare Dinner (GF-never been!)
-California Grill dinner & Wishes (CR-never been!)
-Beaches & Cream lunch (BCR-been before)
-Captain Cooks dinner (CS @ Poly-been before)
-Gardenview Tea Room (GF-our wedding luncheon-never been!)

Anything else worth trying?

I should note that aside from sushi, we are not huge fans of Asian food and I despise pineapple/Hawaiian food!

you mentioned BOMA.. GREAT CHOICE. besides the wonderful choices of food and the great price, you get the added pleasure of viewing the animal savannahs before dinner!
outside of not liking hawaiin food, I still suggest Ohanna's. there is plenty else, the stmosphere is fun, and if you plan your ressies well, you can watch the electrical water pagaent from the beach
of course, the hoop de do revue at fort wildernesss is fun (2 credits) lots of great food, and again, you can see the electrical water pagaent (plan it right)
totally SKIP Shutters at carribean beach, it was really bad. Boatwrights at POR was good. yeah, just good. we usually eat the first night at the resort we are staying at, so the food was good, nothing else good to say about it. if you are at POR or POFQ, you can take the boat down to downtown disney and eat. we really liked MAYA gril at Coronado, but it was the 1st resort we ever ate at, so maybe it wasn't as good as we remember. (but I still swear that filet was "cut into with a fork" delicious")
whispering canyon at wilderness lodge is ... just FUN!!! and the food really is good if you like ribs and such. and, if you're NOT stayng there, it's part of the experience to just be in the lobby and loo
k around!! and UP.... and up...!!!
sometimes we like to make a dining expereince at another resort well. just that... an experience. take a day we don't have park tickets, and explore another resort. perhaps we'll stay here on another trip?! (this was esp. fun last dec. checking out all the christmas decorations at the other resorts!)

calif. grill: we LOVED it, BUT it was just us 2 adults. fancy. the fireworks viewing: nice, but NOT if it was our ONLY viewing of WISHES. much better view from main street in the park, but different. dinner was GREAT, esp, if you have kids, don't let that be your ONLY WISHES viewing.
I loved narcosses, too (at GF... 2 credits). hope I helped!

Kona- Poly, it was a great place to eat. The food was amazing, the sticky wings, oh man let me tell awesome amazing! The also have amazing desserts, I have no clue if it is still there but they have an ice cream cone they the place on the plate vertical with chocolate, wrap cotton candy around it, and then vanilla and chocolate ice cream inside. Also I have a soy allergy and they were very accomodating here, the chef's came out to the table and talked with us about what our best options were but they could do anything.

O'Hana- Poly- oh this one is also amazing. Great for families. Deff. not a place to go for a quiet dinner. This is where you want to go and have fun and just have a disney day;)

Spoodles- Boardwalk- Has good food, we always are at the boardwalk with DVC so it is convenient for us when we are like um we do not want to get back on the bus lets just go there.

I know DTD is not a resort but it isn't really a park so meh let just throw it in here too, we like Cap't Jacks, There isn't much to look at in the restaurant but they have amazing twin lobster tails, oh man! Melt in your mouth. Also their molten chocolate cake is to die for. Obviously on the DDP or else there would not have been lobster tails that not hehe.

Cape May- Yacht, really great for seafood, especially if your family likes seafood. My father can deff. pack in the peel and eat shrimp which really works for him. Also they have mussels, which i enjoyed. There are also kid friendly as well as for family members that do not care for seafood.

Boma- AKL- Great place to try some different items but also have good old fall backs for those who either not interested in the different items or did not like them. It is pretty awesome for families since you can sit and look out to the savannah, so it keeps little ones distracted so parents can sit and eat.

This is all I can think of currently, I can add more when I go back in May, we are doing more the resort restaurants this time around rather than park ones.

Thank you Smidgy-yes, that was really helpful!!

I should have also mentioned that we are going to be doing a split-stay or WL & POR.

-Yes, we love Boma-we tried it on our last trip while we were staying at AKL and it was our favorite restaurants of our whole trip!! I'm hoping we go on a different menu rotation this time around though because we missed out on the butternut squash soup last time :sad1:

-Could you tell me a little more about Ohana? That's exactly why I mentioned I didn't like hawaiian food/pineapple stuff because I know how popular this restaurant is and people would likely recommend it. I am very much a "sauce on the side" kinda girl. I've heard that the atmosphere and decor are pretty neat here and I'd try it if I could find something to eat, except for the honey crunch cake!

-Could you tell me more about the Hoop De Doo Review? We are likely doing DDE, not DDP, so credits won't matter to us. What's the show about? I don't eat ribs (but DF does), but I do love fried chicken.

-We are so excited for California Grill! It looks so fancy! and watching Wishes will just be an added bonus! We actually like to watch Wishes from MK and also from the Poly beach, but this will be cool because we will be higher up.
*Any meal suggestions for the California Grill? We love sushi (CA rolls & tuna are our favorites), but we'll want to get other stuff too.

Thanks-looking forward to hearing more! :goodvibes

Hmm...I think I might be confusing Kona and Ohana-the one I was thinking of I thought was less "kid-like" & chaotic. It will be just me & DF (hubby by then!!) -no kids. Can you give me the lowdown on these two places?

We went to O' Hana on a Family reunion and then Kona on just a my family trip. O'hana is the one that can be chaotic, I think it is more when you hit the dinner rush time. or right before the fireworks. They have the coconut races and what not. The food is great, maybe doing a time when they first start dinner would work because it might be a tad quieter, I enjoy the skewers which is where they come around with skewers of shrimp, beef, and i believe either chicken or pork, or maybe both I can not remember right now. They also start you off with wings that are similiar to those of Kona. I was there for my b-day, now let me tell you embarrassment to the max, stand on a chair and have the entire restaurant sing to you...oh my!They have different desserts, I was quite full after my meal and so I opted for a shaved ice bucket, and it literally comes in a sand pail! It has 5 different flavors, strawberry, orange, grape, blue raspberry, watermelon. They also bring you a shovel to eat with, i opted for a spoon. it is enough for the entire table! We got 3 too, there were 10 of us and we couldn't finish them all. Kona is located across from O'hana in the Poly. They are a quieter TS meal. I remember when I went there what I had. I had the Sticky Wings, which was as I said amazing, filet mignion, which that night they were doing a mushroom polynesian special type which was quite good, though it did not beat the one I had eaten at Le Cellier, and then the Ice cream cone dessert, after being in Disney for 10 days many of the desserts start to become redundant, you can only have so many creme brulees and chocolate cake variations, so we like to look at what they offer for desserts since we do the DDP. My sister had the Beef Teryaki which she enjoyed alot, she love steak, but was getting rather tired of it after I think she had ordered just about all the places we had eaten, so this gave her a new twist to her favorite. My mom got the Mahi Mahi which she enjoyed alot, and i tried a bit and thought it was awesome. I am not a huge fish person, like shellfish, just not fishy fish, but the mahi mahi was not a fishy taste. It was also very tender, just use a fork and go. My dad had pork chop which he said he really enjoyed. I did not get to try this one. If you are looking for a quiet meal I would deff. say do Kona, they have some awesome choices, just looked up what there ice cream cone is called, it is the Kona Kone.

You've got a good list there! My family will be hitting the Cali Grill and Yachtman's Steakhouse (at the Yacht Club). This is probably the best steakhouse in all of WDW so its always a must hit for us!!

we really liked MAYA gril at Coronado, but it was the 1st resort we ever ate at, so maybe it wasn't as good as we remember. (but I still swear that filet was "cut into with a fork" delicious")

I agree with you about the Maya Grill. We made the mistake of each ordering the Mixed Grill. We almost choked when they brought out those HUGE platters. My mom still swears, we each had at least five pounds of potatoes on each platter. Once we got pass the sheer volume of food we found the filet, fish, and ribs absolutely delicious. We hardly touched the potatoes, but the grilled vegetables were also very good. The steak was fork tender, the ribs were falling off the bone, and the fish was heavenly. Too much food for one person to even make a dent in, but soooo good. That filet was every bit as good as the one we'd had a few nights previously at Le Cellier.

We are planning on doing the following dining on our trip in Sept:

Chef Mickey's--Comtemp
Donald's Breakfast--AK (1st time)
1900-Grand Flo (1st time)
50's--HS
Liberty Tree--MK
Akershus--Epcot
Ohana (Breakfast)--Poly

My favorites would be.

Breakfast - Kona Cafe, Everything here is good. I love the Kona coffee they serve here.

Dinner - California Grill. We just love dinning here. We always have great meals and service here. My favorite dish here is Pork tenderloin w/ creamy polenta. We always start with one of there great flatbreads. They also have a great wine list if that interest you.

Jiko. We have dined here many times and never been disapointed. On our last visit I had there Lamb Shank and it was fantastic. The best lamb I have ever had. We always start with there Barbecue Chicken flatbread. They also have a great wine list.
