I would also recommend These is My Words...can't remember the author off the top of my head...and Geraldine Brooks' Year of Wonders...both great, riveting reads.
I loved These Is My Words. I didn't want it to end.

The Pursuit of Glory: Europe 1648-1815 by Tim Blanning

736 pages of non-fiction history at its glorious finest.

Yes, I am a history dork.

Well, I finally picked up Gone With The Wind and what do you know? I have a new favorite book! Just cannot put it down.

The character of Scarlett O'Hara is pure genius. I'm always amazed when an author can create such an unlikeable main character, and not only NOT turn away the reader, but pull the reader in to route for the character.

I saw the movie as a teenager, liked it, never really watched it again. Never thought deeply about the story. Has been one of those things that has taken on new meaning to me as an adult.

I am almost finished with GWTW right now! I love it too...what great character development...Scarlett, to me, is a very real character. She is really a selfish brat but you can fully see where it comes from. Great book, I agree!

Check your copy though. I brought the book on vaca, couldn't put it down, got to a page in the 800s, and there were about 50 pages missing! Thank God it was at the end of my vaca though! I brought it back to B&N and they gave me a new one...
Happy reading!

Today I finished the Englisher...it was really good and I'm going to move onto the 3rd & final book in the trilogy.
Really interesting & quick reads.

Julie Andrews: An Intimate Portrait

Not sure I plan to finish it. It is a major change from Carl Hiassen's Lucky You which was totally funny!

But I do love Julie Andrews and hope it will develop more. This is why I usually stay away from non-fiction, they can be so dry even whey you are reading about a favorite person or event.--Except of course for Winterdance: The Fine Madness of Running the Iditarod by Gary Paulsen!

Best book ever!

Vanished by Karen Robards.

Is that based on the movie with Kiefer Sutherland and Sandra Bullock? I loved that movie. It scared me like crazy!

I am trying to finish one book, "Change of Heart". I am about 1/2 way through. It's been so busy with summer activites, that I don't get a chance to read until late. Then I crash instead of reading. Anyway, I had it from the library about a month ago, and had to return it to check it out again. Couldn't renew it and I had to get back in the waiting line. :upsidedow It is very good and I am interested in what happens.

I'm ambitious though. I have, "These Is My Words", in the que.

I'm reading 'Beautiful Lies' by Lisa Unger. It's about a freelance writer living in New York who gets a package in the mail that makes her question her past and throws her life into turmoil. I've just started it, but so far I'm enjoying it and I absolutely love the author's writing style.

I don't think so. But I have never seen that movie.

It is about a missing child.

You are right. The movie was about a missing girl friend.

Snowwhite325, "Change Of Heart" is an excellent book. I love how the author moves the story by using different POV for each chapter. I'm going to get off this computer and read it right now! :upsidedow
