Wow, all your kids are lucky!! We don't fill our buckets. We go to my grandmas and have an easter egg hunt and have a nice dinner. We also decorate eggs and fun activities. We go to church the next day and that is it. That is how we did it when I was growing up and that is the tradition I am passing down to my kids. Heck, we still have toys from Christmas that they haven't got too, so the last thing they need is more stuff!:rotfl:

I didn't realize all the money spent on Easter.:scared1:

We always use the same baskets every year, one for each DS and one family one (that's mostly for DH and myself). Reese's peanut butter eggs, a chocolate bunny, and some jelly beans make up most of it. Growing up I would always also get either a little girl's purse or stuffed bunny or charm. ONE thing. I'm putting bubbles and play-doh in my sons' baskets. They aren't into stuffed animals and how many stuffed bunnies do little boys need?

As for hiding the dyed eggs, of course! Except for a town egg hunt, I totally do not understand plastic eggs. We dye ours Saturday night and the Easter bunny hides them early Sunday morning. Daddy goes around and checks to see where they might be so we can play "hot" or "cold" for the last few. The rule is that they must be visible, if only a teeny bit. You can't have to open a drawer or cabinet. The Easter bunny often matches the dye color with the surroundings. For instance, a red one might be under the red drapes.

I look forward to watching our 19 month old this year!

He is risen! He is risen, indeed!

P.S. Does anyone celebrate First Fruits instead? I was going to try to get away from "Easter" and move more toward First Fruits.

My boys will each be getting crocs and jibbitz (I got these super cheap at the Crocs warehouse sale) and a couple of Cartoon Classics Disney DVDs. I might put some candy in the baskets, we'll see. They also get baskets from both sets of grandparents & the grandparents know that I probably won't put in a ton of candy so they more than compensate :rotfl2:!

My kids are getting some crocs and jibbitz in their baskets along with some jelly beans, peeps, cadbury cream eggs and a chocolate bunny each.

They are also getting new a new outfit for church with new sandals.

I will probably hide some candy in plastic eggs. We don't eat hard boiled eggs so I don't think we will dye eggs

Thanks for responding. I didn't see the game coupon. I was just at walmart today and they had the Nancy Drew one on the clearance rack but I price checked it and it still came to $30. Have you heard of anyone that has used these yet and if the kids liked them?

If you need a $5 game coupon, just do an internet search for "$5 Didj game coupon" and it should come right up. I would've asked an associate about the Nancy Drew games. I bet they just hadn't been scanned into the system with the new price yet. I haven't heard of anyone using them but $15 isn't alot of money to lose for something like this, and when I heard that you can put a child's school spelling list in it then that made it even better.

Just did my shopping today at the Dollar tree. Got a Mickey Frisbee, Mickey mini puzzles, Pooh Jump Rope, some plastic eggs (we hung all of our old ones in a tree last week. It's a big deal in our neighborhood) a chocolate bunny, Tow Mater and McQueen sand molds, some starbursts and jelly beans, some Diego bubbles and egg shaped sidewalk chalk.

Doesn't anyone else put new toothbrushes in the Easter Basket. I guess that's probably along the lines of socks and underwear? My kids love getting new toothbrushes and toothpaste (Aquafresh kids is the only one they like right now though). Lately they are into the firefly toothbrushes that light up. My daugther really goes through the toothbrushes pretty fast, so Santa puts one in the stocking, Easter bunny puts one in the basket and she gets one for her birthday too (Late Aug), works out pretty well. SHe's only 4, but DS is 6 and he still looks forward to his too.

This year, we will be in WDW for Easter...So, The Bunny will be leaving the boys a small going away present (ie something to keep them out of Mommy's hair while she packs), and some things for the plane ride. At Disney, they will have Disney themed basket--nothing over the top but I was planning on filling the collapsible baskets (smart Bunny) with a Disney car or two, plastic eggs with .51 for pressed pennies and some Disney $ and I am making a little Bunny coupon good for a pin, a Mickey ice cream, and a Build a Dino...things I would be buying anyway...my kids are little 2 and 4 so this works for this year.

Their auntie's Bunny is coming tomorrow...so there won't be a shortage of things for them!

Spent a little more this year than normal because the bunny is bringing all things summer for the kids. I still need to pick up some chocolate---don't really give them much of this though.

We celebrate all holidays big in our house, including Easter. We have 3 egg hunts that we will go to on Saturday (one at our church, one at the park with our homeschool group, and we do one with the kids here at home). Then Sunday is church, and we go out to dinner after that. I agree that you don't have to go all out on the kids baskets - my parents always kept things simple when I was growing up (and I was happy with that). We started off doing things simple with our kids, then started adding gifts a few years back. I know that I went overboard on the kids baskets this year, but it is just something that I had fun doing. Here is what we did:

Disney On Ice Tickets For The Saturday After Easter ($78.58 for our family of 5) - used an online discount code - the kids will each get a ticket in their basket

Cheap Easter baskets from Walmart this year ($4 a piece) - no clue where I put the ones from last year

Amanda (my 16 yr old)
I Tunes Gift Card ($25)
Gummy Headphones ($9.76)
Puppy In My Pocket Bunny Set ($6.44) - both my girls collect these

Keychain ($2.00)
Pack Of Small Pens - Different Colors ($2.49)

Pink Glitter Easter Ball ($7.99) - these are really cool - my kids all loved them in the store
Chocolate Bunny ($1.99)
Pez Bunny ($1.33)
Gummy Rabbits ($1.00)
Assorted Candy For The Basket (No clue what all the candy came to) - I bought about 10 packs of various candy (Reeses Eggs, Starburst, Lifesavers, Chocolate Eggs/Bunnies, Etc....) - putting some in their baskets, then putting the rest in plastic eggs for the church egg hunt

Mikayla (my 10 yr old)
Girls Computer Games - Comes In A Set With 8 Different Games ($19.82)
Puppy In My Pocket Bunny Set ($6.44)
Puppy In My Pocket Spring Animal Set ($3.99)
Playdoh Set ($4.99)

Small Stuffed Vibrating Bunny ($2.00)
Talking Hide-In-Seek Egg ($5.00)
Pink Glitter Easter Ball ($7.99)
Chocolate Bunny (1.99)
Pez Bunny ($1.33)
Gummy Rabbits ($1.00)
Assorted Candy For The Basket

Jonathan (my 5 yr old)
Star Wars Action Figure Set (21.76) - my son collects these - huge Star Wars Fan
Buzz Lightyear Bubbles (2.99)
Playdoh Set ($4.99)
Playdoh Bunny/Chick Set (2.99)
Grow A Bunny ($1.00)
Duck Whistle ($1.00)
Small Vibrating Stuffed Chick ($2.00)
Talking Hide-In-Seek Egg ($5.00)
Blue Glitter Easter Ball ($7.99)
Chocolate Bunny (2.99)
Pez Bunny ($1.33)
Gummy Rabbits ($1.00)
Assorted Candy For The Basket

I also bought 6 packs of those assorted eggs that are pre-filled, they are really cute (Noahs Ark, Sports, Bugs/Butterflies, Fairies, Dinosaurs, & Ocean/Fish) - keeping some for the kids, taking the rest to use in the big egg hunts (we have tons of plain plastic eggs from last year to take to the egg hunts as well).

We also color Easter Eggs on Friday (my son LOVES boiled eggs), but we only hide the plastic ones.

My girls both got new Easter dresses ..... now just need to find a nice outfit for my son. They are having Easter/Spring pictures taken next week.

We will be camping for Easter. My girls are getting:

DD10
$25 worth of Disney dollars (we are going in June) - (1) $10 (2) $5 (5) $1's.
2 pairs of earings from Clairs
1 set of really cool specialized fingernail clippers from Claire's.

HSM3 to share with DD8

DD8
$25 worth of Disney dollars
1 pair of earings from Claires
1 choker necklace from Claires
1 set of really cool specialized fingernail clippers from Claires as well.

Both will get a small chocolate bunny and a smallish assortment of candy. I like the toothbrush/toothpaste idea and think I will get a set of that as well. DD's love to have their own. DD10 has braces, can get her a new travel one for school.

They each got a chocolate bunny ($2.99), a white chocolate duck ($.99), a Tootsie Roll bank ($.99), a plastic egg with individual packs of M&M's and Skittles ($1.99) and a glitter ball ($7.99). Ds7 also got a Lego set (on sale for $8.00 at Target) and dd5 got a Snow White/Seven Dwarfs Figurine Set ($9.99). I'm still planning to pick up a small plush of some sort for each.

So far all I have is

DS14- a video game he wanted

DD11- NOTHING yet- I have to find some vera bradley for her

DS6 Didji- that I got on clearance and a game

DS4 A FP Letter writing digital desk- also clearanced.

I read that Toysrus is having a buy one get one on Fischer Price toys this week so I may head there to fill in the BIG GAPS in the baskets. I'm thinking some Pokemon cards for my 6 year old, Itunes gift cards for the 2 older ones. UGH and I'm hosting Easter! I have to get moving.

I got them at Target. They are about 5" across, filled with liquid and colored glitter (bought one pink and one blue) and they bounce really, really high. My kids have been eyeing them every time we go to Target for months but I refused to spend that much for them. Since they're baskets are not elaborate, I thought I would just put those in.
