My daughter has all big ticket items on her list, some which are not mommy approved. She is getting the NDS bundle with Ndogs.

I'm trying to find something that is not a computer - video game - tv related item....

She has several AG dolls but I think she's on the edge of 'playing' with them. She asked for Kit but not for any clothes etc. She did ask for the stroller but I'm not sure I want to spend the money I think she will outgrow by next year.

She wants the Doodle bear but it looks.... dull, for lack of a better word.

This is such a hard age. Maybe I'll get her something softball related. She's a softball fan.

I can't say, she might see it. shhhh

DD(12 next weekend!!) is getting some "teen" stuff and some toys. Her big sister is going to college next year, so DD12 is getting a hair dryer, a makeup mirror, and a little bag with her own cosmetics - cotton balls, makeup remover, and real eyeshadow, mascara, and blush in mom-approved colors. These are things she uses only occasionally, and always borrowed from big sis, so I know she will be thrilled with the "real McCoy" for her own room. She's also getting a basket with some knitting supplies - she loves to knit scarves, even though they are sometimes pretty lumpy looking.

Other ideas this year - the new Sky High video is "high" on dd's list, as is the Harry Potter Scene It game. Her big gift will be the NintendoDS and Nintendogs, too - she will love it!!! There are plenty of good choices for new books, CDs, DVDs, arts and crafts kits or supplies, and board games - they always show up on my childrens' lists.

The Dance Dance Revolution seems to be a hit with this age - my girls are getting one to share. We have a PS2, so that's the version I bought. DD has also said she wants "clothes" - I think because she's heard big sis ask for them. She especially wants a pair of gaucho pants - why did that style ever come back????

If you think this age is hard, wait until she's 18!!!!!! You'll have to rob a bank just to get two or three thigns on the average teen's list!!!!

DD is also still into American Girls, and even Barbies (mostly the mermaids in the bathtub) when she thinks no one is looking. I know she's going to outgrow them in the next year or so, but I hope she'll still get some play from them. Boy, they grow up fast, don't they????

DD's (almost 12) will be getting a digital camera for her "big" present, and some related accessories. Her other presents will be a new chair for her desk, a toiletry bag along with a Bath and Body Works gift card, and I am debating getting her a gift card for some clothes - maybe Old Navy.

Oh, I forgot about Bath and Body Works. DD is getting some of their American Girl line stuff in her stocking, too - I think a body wash and some perfume.

I know the feeling.. It just seems to get harder and harder.. My oldest DD is 14 and her big present was an MP3 player.. got her 6 shirts, a flat iron, Giftcertificate to her favorite store at the mall, 2 cds and a brush set.. She recently started scrapbooking, so I have a small box with some supplies in it.. Planning on putting stickers for her scrapbooking and makeup and stuff like that in her stocking.. She is getting harder and harder to buy for.. My son is 12 was pretty easy this year.. my DD who is 7 wasnt too difficult..

DD (12 in a couple months) is getting an MP3 player, Apples to Apples game, a World History Book (which she asked for--yikes!LOL ), the small travel bag for toiletries from LLBean and some stuff to go in it, an electronic dictionary(I started with a bookmark one but decided to do a little better kind)--she is they type who reads and looks words up she doesn't know. I wasn't anything like that--I'd just "guess" LOL. it is a hard age. I am not ready for her to give up toys but she doesn't play with them too often anymore. She's a gym rat and if not doing that, she's either studying or outdoors.

Good luck!!

Digital Camera for the "big gift", Harry Potter Scene It, and a suitcase. All things off her list :)

I'm so glad you started this thread! My dd's 12th birthday is in Jan, so I get the pleasure of trying to come up with Christmas presents and birthday presents around the same time. :rolleyes2

She loves all things Japanese. I bought her a musical figure that she fell in love with in Epcot's Japan, it's from Spirited Away. A CD of the movie music. A new book about drawing Manga, which she loves and is pretty good at it. The game Mystery Date! I had this at her age, I think she and her friends will get a kick out of it! The book written by Bethany Hamilton, the 13yr old surfer who had her arm bitten off by a shark. I noticed she has a cologne out too, that is sold at Claire's, so I'm going to check that out. I'll get her gift cards to her fav. stores.

For stocking stuffers, I noticed Target sells little Disney Cuties nail polishes, lip glosses, ect. which she likes. We'll be in WDW this weekend and I want to buy the kids more socks from Japan, they are pricey ($7/pair) but really cute. And some yummy Disney candy! :mickeybar

Wow, I think we are shopping for the same child! LOL I got my soon to be DD12 some nail stuff. She loves to paint her nails and always uses my stuff. So, I got her some of her own. She got the Sky High DVD, Scene It Jr., Assorted hair brushes with clips and such, a hair straightener, mommy approved makeup, and a Panda Love Cub. Her big gift this year is the DDR for PS2 with the mat and an extra game. Her aunt got her a baseball and glove. She just started showing interest in baseball this year.

She's my hardest to shop for. She really isn't into anything particular. She's getting too old for most toys and too young for some teen things. When looking for nail and makeup stuff it was hard because it was all either too old for her or too kiddy for her. *sigh*

Harry Potter Scene It must be big this year, that is what my DD12 wants also.
We are getting her a guitar, she wants to learn and my BIL plays so he is going to teach her. Also hair straightener, hair dryer, brush set, this book about fairies she seen at the book store, plus some gift cert. I wouldn't dream of picking out clothes for her.

Now she is mentioning the ipod nano, DH said he asked her if she wanted one awhile ago and she said no, now she wants one. I think she will get it, he has asked me to write everything down about it.

Tough age to buy for! They're really caught between two worlds at 12. My neice asked me for a Video Now player even though she already has an portable DVD player. After discussing it with SIL, we decided that some of her favorite DVDs would be a better choice, since the Video Now was brand-limited and the video choices were somewhat juvenille. She's definitely getting "March of the Penguins" from me. I'll also give her some bath gel and body lotion in from B&B Works, and a cute sweater.

Great ideas
Please keep them coming

I can't post what I bought my 10 and 12 year olds since they are both DISers and the 12 year old caught me reading this thread

but i love the ideas as she is HARD to shop for

Well this year we are going bare minimum.

14yodd has asked for World of Warcraft, which is an online game so that has a monthly fee.
We also got her her a hand held DVD player. (That she doesn't know about.)

We have asked family to get her Borders gift certificates as she is into "Manga" books which cost a fortune.

For Christmas break she gets to stay with her friends for a couple of days in Missouri when we go back home to Texas.

I agree the gifts are smaller and cost more....... :earseek:

Your right, this is an "odd" age. My DD(12) is between still enjoying her American Girl dolls and more teenage type things. Here is some things I've got her this year:

Big gift - iPod
American Girl Marisol gift set
colorful lamp for her room
Blow Dryer
Hair straightener
makeup caddy
nail polish
perfume
manicure set
fashion design studio
tons of clothes - she just LOVES clothes!!!
sewing machine
CD's
DVD's
art sets
Stocking stuffers: cute young girl makeup kits from Walmart, teen magazines, socks, keychains, disney light up pens, pins, candy, gift card for iPod music downloads, gloves, stickers, lip balms.

My DD12 is getting a lime green body pillow, a Nintendogs game(we have the DS thingy), some clothes she especially wants, and some earrings. She is very girly so it's easy to buy for her. Except for the clothes--I take her to Limited Too and let her try on clothes, then I go back the next day and buy the things i want to give her.

The happiest day of my life will be when my youngest daughter says, "Mom, I can't shop at Limited Too anymore - it's not cool and I've outgrown all their stuff." I hate it with a passion!!! That said, I dutifully went in and bought a couple of outfits for birthday and Christmas presents. DD will turn 12 two weeks before Christmas.

I've noticed a couple of references to Manga - would someone please tell me what that is????? Thanks!!!
