What are Wilderness Lodge boats like?

In an attempt to avoid crowded confined spaces, I was hoping to book at Wilderness Lodge and use boats to go to MK, but are the boats open-air or enclosed? If they're enclosed, is there an ability to open the windows or sit in an open-air portion?

Alternatively, can you open windows on Disney busses, and are they still using social distancing protocols and limited capacity on transportation? Thanks in advance for any advice.

You can seen photos of the different boats here. You can usually find seats on the larger boats either up front or in the back, if it's chilly its easier to get those seats. For the smaller boats you don't need to worry it's pretty wide open. I don't think you can open any windows on the buses, at least I've never seen them open in the past. My advice, keep your mask on and you're good to go.

Just got back from Copper Creek. The boat to MK was both open air seating and enclosed area seating. The windows were open in the enclosed area. Seats are marked as unavailable in rows to avoid packing everyone in. Some rows had one seat with an X whereas other rows had two seats XX, etc. I believe they also had spacing for the outside seats but I am not sure as we only sat inside.

Buses aren't really distancing anymore. They still have the plastic barriers up between parties, but they aren't leaving empty seats. Still no standing, so they aren't cramming people in as badly as pre-Covid.

I guess that depends on when you are going. I think every seat and row will soon be filled on all modes of WDW transportation. And the barriers will be coming down.

We have been on larger and smaller boats from Wilderness to MK. It seems to be random as to which boat arrives at any time.
As mentioned above, you cannot open the windows on a bus.

This past week we were at Fort wilderness and we used the bus to MK. I think most people use the boat so the bus was never crowded. I also noticed that the busses we rode had the emergency roof exit cracked open for ventilation.
When there was a line at the end of the night, the bus driver gave us a number to sit at and the first people on went to the back. No standing.
