My husband and I are planning to go to WDW from January 15th - 22nd for his birthday. We have never been in January and I"m wondering how cold it will be? We live in western Massachusetts now and have spent a few years in Rochester NY so I'm not worried about it being too cold for us to do anything but just trying to plan ahead a bit on when we want to do things.

It can be anywhere from the 80's to the 40's during the day...seriously...there is no way to know.

We went to WDW the second week of January this year. The first day was cold - the high temperature was in the 40's. If I remember correctly, the week before the temperatures were in the 30's. By the last day, the high temperature was in the 70's. It's really hit or miss.

It's not too bad to walk around when it's cold out, but riding some of the rides can be COLD. We rode Everest 5 times in a row one night during Evening EMH and the temperature was only in the 30's. It was a lot of fun, but sooooo cold :rotfl:

Thanks for the responses. Even 35-40 wouldn't be too bad. That means we whould plan to take an actual jacket and not just a sweatshirt like we would if we were expecting 50+ the whole time. As long as its not snowing it would still be a large improvement over being home!!

I was there for a long weekend in Jan in 2008. The first day was sunny and we wore shorts during the day, a light jacket at night. The next morning we were in jackets and gloves in the am and long sleeves by afternoon. The next day we were comfortable in short sleeves during the day and night. The 4th day was cold in the am, could have used shorts in the afternoon, and cold in the pm.

So to answer your question, it varies but it will be warmer than Mass and no snow. :) We're from OHio and I loved seeing all the sunshine in January. The hardest part was packing clothes for so many different kinds of weather. Gloves were very nice.

We were there January 16-23 of this year. It was right after the cold snap that killed all the flowers/fruit.

While we were there, it was in the high 30s/low 40s in the early morning and warmed up into the 60s. We all dressed in layers and spent most of the trip in a sweatshirt or light jacket. It was too cold to swim, except for our last day, but otherwise the weather was glorious! There was lots of sun. We weren't uncomfortable in a sweatshirt... and it was a whole lot nicer than the weather at home!

I would definitely go again at that time of year... but it is tough to pack not knowing what the whether would be like. Layers, layers, layers!

I've been there three times in January. Each trip, there have been some days in the 60s, some days in the 70s, and even somedays in the 80s....so obvsiously, it's variable. I know it can get colder than 60s at times, in January, especially during the night and early morning.

When ever I have been there in January, I took some summer clothes and even some winter-ish clothes. Mostly ended up wearing long pants (jeans) and a summer shirt, with a light jacket.

I think this past winter was exceptionally cold for Florida, even in January.

We have been to WDW 2 years in January. Once, it was warm and sunny, and once it was cold and gray. There is so much variation in temps that you really need to pack a little of everything and layer.

One thing to remember- IMO, 45 in FL feels different than 45 in some other parts of the country. Between the fact that you will be out in the weather most of the day and the high humidity in FL, that same temp seems colder at WDW than it does back home. I can tolerate temps in the 40s pretty well here in NC, but at WDW, it seemed the cold just seeped into my bones. Don't underestimate the need for warm clothes- gloves and hats, too.

Some sites that have historical weather, either for specific days and years or averages are below. Knowing past data doesn't mean you can predict future data but it will give you some data to work with:

NSSL
Intelicast
Weatherbase
Weather

The historical stuff is more buried on some sites but it is all there.
