What are those circular buildings with shell sculptures on top @ Dolphin?

Does anyone know what those large circular columns are on ends of the wings at the Dolphin are? They are topped with large shell sculptures/fountains. They look like could some sort of enclosed balconies but they seem to large for that. Maybe rooms ... suites? Anyone know?

Those are indeed balconies - but not enclosed on all sides.

What room type or view type would those be? I would like to request one, but not sure what to ask for. I have a deluxe resort view w/balcony booked .... any chance I'll be in one of those rooms?

They are not suites...but deluxe balcony rooms. We had one last weekend...they are spectacular as far as view goes. The best rooms in the whole resort. Ask for the 11, 9 or 7th floors.

The rooms are called "CORNER KINGS with TURRET BALCONY" rooms. They are considered "Deluxe rooms with park views", and most offer two balconies. These were (one time) considered "executive suites" by the Sheraton. They are a teeny bit larger than the other deluxe rooms, and offer a KING bed, a SOFA, and a table/chair. The accomodations are definitely plush and comfy, the views/location are spectacular...and the TURRET Balcony is Fabulous. The best are located on the FAR EAST WING (unobstructed EPCOT facing view...Room # 5015/6015/7015, etc.) or the FAR WEST WING (Unobstructed MGM facing view). Top floor is 9th. Stay between 5th & 9th floors for the best view. ENJOY!

We stayed in a deluxe Corner room and the area you are asking about is what we got. Probably the best view we ever had at Disney. The Corner room gave us a sliding door to a balcony that looked out towards MGM with a great view of TOT. Only the odd numbered floors (5,7,9 and so on) have these balconies in the corner rooms. Another wall had a large picture window looking across to the Swan with a view of the boat dock. Also along that same wall is a door that leads out onto the round columns you were asking about. This deck offers yet another nice view of the Boardwalk and Epcot.
We were on the seventh floor and I would guess that the higher you are the better the view. Also note that not all floors have the first balcony I mentioned.

I want one of those rooms!! If I don't get one, I'll be dissapointed so I'll keep my fingers crossed.

What price category are these rooms? I've paid for a Deluxe Rm w/balcony Resort View. Am I in the same category as these corner rooms with Turrett balconies or should I ugprade to another category??? I did call the Dolphin and asked if I could request room 9015 and they said it was noted so hopefully I won't be charged more if I get one.

YOU ARE ALL SET! This is the EXACT catagory of these corner rooms. You should not be charged any additional charge for this room. MAke sure to PUSH for one of these rooms at check-in, (if 9015 is not available). You will probably not have any problem...since your preference is noted. Good Luck....and ENJOY!

*P.S. You still have the Charthouse down there by the sea? Have you been to the LEGOLAND lately? We have friends in Carlsbad...a very small & quaint place to live.

I actually worked for LEGOLAND the first two years they were open. It's a great and beautiful park - and not just for kids. I was an Asst Mananger in the Admissions Department and did VIP Tours. I teach now, but LEGOLAND was a great place to work.

BTW, Thanks for all your help on the Dolphin - I really do hope I'm able to get one of those corner rooms.
I know those are only King Beds, but since I'm traveling this trip a friend I was hoping not to have to share a bed. Do you think the couch would be suitable to sleep on, or should I ask for a roll-a-way, if I'm able to get the King room.

I was able to get one of these rooms in December because I wanted a room WITHOUT a connecting door. There are not connecting doors in this room. We were in 6116 right next to the clam water fountain by the main courtyard. I was originally booked for 2 doubles but didn't need them since it was just dd and I.

The torret balcony was a little obstructed by palm trees (tough to take)...we could see everything in the EPCOT area if we looked at the end of the balcony. The obstruction was actually just enough to make it a private balcony. I'd for this room again in a heartbeat!

It was also a short walk to the elevators that let you right off around the corner from Tubbi's when we got off on the ground floor. It was a great location. Don't know if I can top this room next trip.

If there's one available during your stay you'll get it! Make sure to ask! GOOD LUCK!
