Can somebody 'splain to me what these pins and lanyards are? We get four of them with our Dream Maker package, and neither my husband nor I have been to Disney in the last 15 - 25 years. Where do you get the pins? Do you have to buy them at the park, or do you just get them at rides, or...... Can somebody explain the ins and outs of these things in a KISS way (keep it simple, stupid)?

We will be taking our 3 children ages 8 - 13 to Disney for the first time ( we have to leave our 15 year old at home because she has college level piano competitions coming up soon and can't be away from the piano for that long:( We asked Disney if she could have the use of a piano during off hours, but they wouldn't oblige:().

Wussup with these things?:(

Hi and Welcome,
A lanyard is a strap you wear around your neck to display your pins. Some people put the ones they like to show off on them, but most put pins they are willing to trade. They sell for $8-15

The package you got sounds like you get a lanyard and a pin for "free" This is a marketing ploy to get you to spend more $$$. This is one ADDICTING habit. The pin you will get will be very common since they give it to everyone who has that package during a three month period.

But not to worry if you don't like the pin. Cast Members walk around the parks with lanyards containing about 8 pins. If you see a pin you like, the CM must trade with you, so long as they don't have that pin on their lanyard.

Scattered throughout all Disney properties are pin locations where you can purchase pins. There are "rack" pins which are unlimited in production and LE (Limited Edition) pins where the number produced is stamped on the back. These are the ones sought by us collectors for the most part. The lower the edition size the harder it normally is to get/trade for that pin.

Check out the FAQs section of this board for more info. Hope this helps. The main idea is to have fun.

Your kids will love this hobby - your pocketbook won't.
