What are these glow cubes? I also noticed alcohol drinks are expensive down there. Any money saving suggestions for drinks? Eight bucks a pop is very steep.

They are hard plastic ice-cubed shaped things that glow when you bang them on something (a table is preferable to your hand as we discovered the hard way!). The only two ways that I know of to save on drinks at Disney are to only get glasses of water at the restaurants and drink only stuff that you buy yourself from an offsite store (including bringing your own water bottles into the parks) or become an AP holder to qualify to then purchase a Disney Dining Experience card (around $75 I think) which nets you 20% off of most table service meals and drinks (alcoholic as well). Happy saving!

I got my glow cube at the sci-fi when I ordered one of their alcoholic shakes, their food isn't the best but I love their shakes. I think kids get them for free. And I've seen them in blue or red, I'm not sure if they come in any other colours.

Sorry to OT...oh my gosh...Casey, Finnegan, Jerome and Rusty the rooster...yes they were a part of my Canadian morning when I was a child...I still do the Friendly Giant whistle that he did for Jerome... for my kids....Mr. Dressup was never the same after Casey and Finnegan retired. I even went to see Mr. Dressup live with a friend before he passed........yes I know I am a pathetic sap!

Drag nFly - not a pathetic sap at all. Who growing up in Canada couldn't wait to see what was in the Tickle Trunk - or fought to see who would sit in the Rocking Chair! Now that was TV at its best!!!

Oh yeah - the glow cubes come in green too. I don't have any suggestions for you on the drink costs. But from what I can remember, the drinks are a lot bigger than what we are used to here.

Funny you should mention these ice cubes. I was just at my local Giant Tiger store where they have them in 3 packs for $4.97. I know there is a Giant Tiger store in Calgary.
This is the first time I have seen them outside WDW.

I had no idea we had a Giant Tiger here. Probably because it is on the opposite side of the city from me. It looks like a cool place worth checking out. If you happen to live in Calgary it is located at:4710 - 17TH Avenue S.E.

We popped for drinks with glow cubes at the Sci Fi too - then forgot them when coming home :guilty:

I found them for sale individually at my local Value Village! Then we tossed them in a ziploc bag & used them for our pumpkin.

Once you locate the "switch" on the bottom, you can manage with just a finger too!

I miss Casey & Finnegan too! & Jerome & Rusty! My DD hasn't gotten into the reruns of Mr. Dressup either - I agree, not the same without Casey & Finnegan. Actually Finnegan always made me think that our puppy would be just like that if she were on TV. (pathetic, but I was young!)

Last year I bought these cubes separately, without a drink, at the bar at the 50s Prime Time Cafe. I can't remember the price.

I am going to go to Giant Tiger tomorrow...Im scared...I may never come out....just like Value Village I cannot stay away:thumbsup2 I have my kids trained so well LOL my daughter got a awesome pair of flats from Old Navy tonight on a clearance table for 97 cents...Grandma would be proud...most of our beanie baby collection coomes from Value Village....and dont get me started on all the great Hugo Boss and LL Bean shirts I have found there for DH...my best find recently was a brand spankin new pair of Etnies (cool 12 year old boy shoes approx 80 bucksUS for 9.99CAD at Value Village)

Anyways I think my kids would really like the ice cube thing...I will try the Giant Tiger ones first!

I looked for them in GT in London, but couldn't find them. Any idea as to which area to look? (Thought they'd make cool stocking stuffers for the university crowd) Thanks!

we got our ice cubes at out local liquor store for about $3.00 each.you can change the colors with the on/off button.I think the colors are red, green, blue. we use them when we camp.the kids love them.

We just returned from Orlando, and yes, the glow cubes are available from Sci-Fi. I think they come with some of the drinks - others you can add them for a cost.

As for money saving tips - we always bring our own water bottle into the Disney parks and refill as necessary throughout the day. Some people don't like the taste of Florida water (swampy), but personally we don't have a big problem with it. You can always get those single serving Crystal Light pouches (or Lipton has iced tea ones now I believe) to add to the water.

I'm unsure about Disney, but I do know if you are at Universal Studios, you can buy one of their plastic glasses/mugs, and refills are $1.50. They are huge too. We usually stick to water at Disney as there are water fountains everywhere whereas at USF, they're few and far between.

We got glowing cubes at Le Cellier last month. Unless you have the DDE card which saves you 20% on alcohol there really are no discounts in the park for drinks. DH and I usually splurge a few nights of the trip since we don't really go out that much at home for drinks. It's not a vacation unless you have a frozen beverage by the pool :)
