What are the perks when booking a room concierge?

..but for KIS- The Dolphin and Swan concierge are almost exactly the same, but Dolphin has a smaller club lounge.

Staff- very nice, I know a few go between both hotels. Mama T, if you have the pleasure of meeting her as I know she's mostly at the Swan, is fantastic, as is Neville and Thabo (Thabo I know goes between both locations).

Food- selection is good, but not a huge variety- typical continental breakfast and hors d' oeuvres at night- usally a veggie tray, fruit tray, rolls, cookies, and one hot item. Alcohol available on cash basis. Beyond that there is nothing else, where the disney hotels do have food throughout the day

I probably shouldn't say this, but the floors are NOT private, so basically anyone could get up and use the facilities which if I was paying full rate for I would be miffed- however with my parents paying 60 a night plus starwood points we hardly have room to complain!! :D HOWEVER, much like Disney room cards the staff has ways of telling where people are staying and if they are supposed to be on club levels and who's not.

Hope this helps!

Quick question fro DPUCK1998,
Why are you on the DIS when your in WDW? You must really be addicted! LOL!
But seriously I am like you I just let everything go. But I wouldn't let this go your paying good money, money you earned to get this extra service and if it's not being given to you then start talking to someone! Otherwise why not just book a standard room!

Dear DisneyChick02,

If I got it right, you get the concierge level as a gift. That's so lucky.

I am thinking through the concierge level at the Dolphin from another vantage point.

We can't afford it outright. Currently, we have a standard, teacher's discount room for eight nights and seven days starting April 24th.

I joined the Starwood Club and I am using my AMEX to accrue points. I have heard that sometimes, having the Starwood card and the points through AMEX can help guests get upgrades in room and/or points. I've heard such tactic can increase the likelihood of getting these perks.

I already know there will be a convention there while we vacation.

So, I wonder how likely it is that we'll get the fireworks view and/or concierge level.

I wonder if it's better to just get one of these perks upfront and pay for it....

What do you think?

KIS- my dad is platinum level starwood, so much like the Marriott Lowes and Hyatt programs, when you reach that level the upgrade is automatic....its a given that they will put you in the best room possible.

Upgrades- like most other hotels- will depend on availability at the time you are arriving, how many VIPs and higher-level SPG you've got there (they will have priority on upgrades), and just how busy the hotel is. Expect nothing, ask nicely, and see what they can do!!

We stayed at the Dolphin a month ago and did not upgrade to club level--we brought our own snacks and upgraded to a better view. I went to the Concierage desk in the lobby (I wasn't paying extra for concierage) and was able to get PS's on several occasions. Most of these were in the evening for the next morning. I thought it was great. It sounds like you have to be paying extra for concierage to get this at the Disney Resorts.

Finally back on,
milmore104 I usually get on to check e-mail etc, I can't
stay out of touch too long. During naptimes and when
the kids are in bed at least it gives me something to do :-)

I forget who it was, but I wouldn't mind getting the e-mail
address to the head concierge. I will wait until I return to
contact them since as you said I don't want to headache
while I'm on vacation. I hope I didn't scare too many people
away. The conceirge staff in general has been great with
PS and arrangements and very friendly. The lounge just
has not been in as good as shape as I expected. My biggest
pet peeve is that the ice seems to be almost always empty!!
That really gets under my skin for some reason....but I'm
having a blast anyway. Two more days here and back
to reality.

btw, stormalong bay may be the nicest pool on earth!!

Thanks, Sherri!

We meet again!

Maybe I should post something on my question here separately (about the Starwood card and possibly getting concierge level v. paying for it). It's probably best to put that under the resort category as it's own thread. I hope to get around to it soon.

I've noticed how important it is to focus on this poor person's recent problem with the disney resort in question not having it's concierge level up to snuff. Good luck.

All the disney concierge desks will make PSs for you but it's on availability. If you stay on the concierge level, I've heard they can usually get PSs that are not available elsewhere ... like hoop de doo 7pm show or breakfast at the castle.

Concierge is definately is paid for at Disney . . . I looked it up, and if memory serves me correctly, rack rater at the GF ate something like $120 more than a regular room for the SL Concierge and something like $220 or so more than a regular room for the main building Concierge. With the FTP I was able to get SL concierge (not main building) for $70 more a night, which worked out to $35 a night each for my GF and me, not so bad when you add up snacks, convience, reservations and (hopefully) a special air to the stay, we have never used concierge though so will have to see, it sounds to be well worth the extra $35 a person though to add some magic.

The concierge desks on the main floors at the Swan and Dolphin are for any hotel guests staying at the Swan and Dolphin. Please use this valuable resource when staying at the Swan and Dolphin to get/change/cancel your PSs! I wouldn't want anyone not staying with CL access thinking that they can't or shouldn't use the main floor concierge desks! :)
