What are the odds?

OK, so last November I booked a 2BR villa at Kidani and I told all of my siblings that if any of them wanted to join us to let us know. Well, DSis, DBIL and my two little nieces are going to make the trip with us -- Yay! DSis and BIL haven't asked for the time off yet, but unless one of them loses their job between now and October, they're definitely going (and if one of them gets laid off, I completely understand why that would change their plans).

However, yesterday I was talking to DSis and we were discussing my parents' upcoming 50th wedding anniversary. We kids have all offered to throw them a big party, but my mom keeps saying that all she wants is to go out to dinner with all of us. Anyway, DSis suggested that perhaps Mom and Dad would enjoy another trip to WDW instead, since they were there once with my other sister and her kids and once with me, DH and our two kids. This probably won't work, since dear Dad has become almost virulently anti-Disney, but on the off-chance that it would, how hard would it be to book a 3BR villa at AKL for October at this late date? I suggested to DSis and DMom that I could book a studio for Mom and Dad, but DSis seemed to think it would be more enjoyable for everyone to be together in one villa.....

Before you go to the trouble of using your points to possibly have a huge room with a few people in it, are they helping you with the room cost? Just from the way you posted, I got a feeling that your family is not really committed to your trip yet. Things could still change their minds. I would book the studio, then if the family backed out, you could cancel the 2 BR and stay in the studio. I have read too many posts on the Dis about families backing out at the last minute, leaving the DVC owner holding the bag... missing banking deadlines. Now, if they will put some money up and all of you get alone really well, I think it would be a lot of fun to have a Grand Villa. They look to be awesome!

If you decide to book the Studio, Ask MS to have the rooms close together. They will note it on your reservation.

Good luck with your trip!

I agree with the above posters recommending a studio for your parents.....we hosted a 50th Anniversary trip for my parents a few years ago a BCV.....22 people total......my parents were very happy to have the option of either hanging out with the entire family or be able to retire to the quiet of their studio...

I think the studio might be the way to go as well. You have a better chance at getting it and your parents might prefer having their own place to get away to. When booking it you could request to have the rooms as close as possible so they are nearby.

Now as far as your Dad being anti-Disney, point out how nice the facilities are and how if he doesn't want to go to the parks, he could just sit outside the hotel in a rocker and watch the animals or have an alternative beverage by the pool(which is what my brother is planning on doing on our trip in October).

I love bringing my family down to one of my favorite places in the world.

I'd have misgivings about the whole thing. I mean, it sounds nice, but if Dad is almost "virulently" anti-Disney, his attitude could really bring down the whole group. :scared1: And, after all, it is his annivesary too, so why try to convince him to do something that he may not really want to do?

Good Luck - I'm sure you can make something work if everyone is on the same page - maybe you might want to ask your mom?

btw my Dad is/was anti Disney too - but I wanted mom and dd to have a special bday trip - dad will do anything to make mom and dd happy - so, knowing dad LOVES nascar - mom and I got him an Richard Petty experience - and I made Dinner adr's at the resorts, so he wouldnt have to go to Disney Park but 2 or 3 days (he loves beer, so we did an around the world at epcot)

turns out, he LOVED the disney trip!! - he brags to everyone how much fun he had!! (oh I also got him a refillable mug, and like a pp he spent time enjoying our resort, strolling and getting his "bargain' the refillable mug!!)

Just a thought!!
