Okay, I do know the spiel about checking in but recently my plans have changed a bit.
Original plan was to leave and begin drive to WDW at midnight arriving in Orlando at (noon, 1:00 - 12 hours later). This way we avoid most traffic (have sat hours on I-10 in past for bad accidents, happened 4 times) and basically have a nice day without going to the parks. Additionally, this would give me the option to get a few hours of sleep between work and leaving for vacation.
Change in plans due to moms bf. Mom and I have taken many trips together and apart (both onsite and offsite) since I was a kid. Those trips we always began drive in a.m. so no problem checking in early. Mom has been dating bf about 4 years (she insists no more marriages for her). However, the past 3 years we have done some vacations together and everytime we leave her bf has to put on this whole scene (even though he has been asked not to even show up before we leave). Well because of his past attitudes/scenes mom isn't informing him of the trip until this Wednesday. She now also wants to leave directly after I get off of work on Thursday (he works afternoon shift and won't be able to get off before we go SO NO BIG SCENE MISSED). So if we leave the house by 6 or 7 p.m. and drive straight through, then it is possible we may arrive by 7 or 8 a.m. Friday morning. At this point I will be up 24 hours (I am not a good sleeper while riding in a vehicle). I am good up for about 18/19 hours without sleep but will get cranky after that, so doing parks first a.m. after driving all night is out. What are the odds that CSR may let us into our room at 8:00 a.m. or a little after?
