What are the Nick Hotel games and how do you get picked for them?

We'll be there for only one day and want to make the most of it. How do I get my kids picked for games?

We just returned from a 3 night stay. When you check in, they will give you a list of activities that are going on during your stay. A typical day would have pool games in the afternoon several times. They set up and ask for volunteers from the audience (the pool). Most sessions were three games with teams of three or four in relay type races. The winning team of each game waits until the end and they do a group slime. Parents are sometimes asked to participate.

They have the Nick Live Family Style shows each evening in Studio Nick (inside). Two families are picked to compete in each show. There seemed to be two shows on the week nights and four on the weekends. You had to fill out a "casting" card and turn it in by 2:30 and "audition" poolside at 3:30. They only take teams of four that must include two adults and two children over the age of eight. We combined with another family to make up our team.

We were picked for the show, but didn't win. The winning team gets slimed. As the losing team, my daughter got to smear a pie in her dad's face. It was the highlight of her trip!

preb - thanks for the info. We will be staying for 2 nights after our DCL. I have heard conflicting reports on the Nick Hotel. I have dd11 and ds8. Did your kids enjoy it? And how is the food, prices, etc.?

I only have 1 DD7 and she loved it. If you are going for your kids to have a great time you'll be fine. It cetainly isn't a luxury resort! We found the food court (Subway, Pizza Hut, A&W and a Coffee Place) to be reasonably priced, fast, and fine. My DH and DD ate at the buffet for breakfast and also said it was fine (not great, but hot and filling). My DD had her hair braided poolside and it was around $20 including some beads and a soccer charm.

Everything was very clean and the staff were all very nice and friendly. Our room was rather noisy at night from kids swimming in the pool and also poolside movies on Friday night. If you are a light sleeper you might want to pick up a fan or something to drown out the noise. There is a Walgreens a few blocks away from the hotel where we stocked up on bottled water, pop and snacks. They also have a little shop in the main buidling, but prices were obviously higher at the hotel.

Thanks for the information. I am looking forward to going to the Nick Hotel sometime in August. I am just waiting for a good deal of some sort, for that time of year.
Quick question, what time does the pool close at night?

preb- thanks so much the info. That is exactly what I needed to know. Did you have a car or is the Walgreens in walking distance? We are going to be there March 15 after our cruise. I also need to know the best way to get there from MCO. Should I get a car service and stop at a grocery store or a cab? Any ideas are appreciated.

The pool closed at 10, but the poolside movies went until 11.

I also forgot to mention that they offer a variety of crafts for the kids during the day for an additional charge. My DD7 made a string backpack project where she stenciled Nick logos and characters on it for $10. It made a cute souvenier.

The Walgreens was actually a CVS...sorry! It really wasn't in walking distance. You might want to ask on the cruise board about canceling your return transfers with Disney and renting a car from Port Canaveral to the hotel and then return it at MCO. It will probably work out to be the same price and would be much more convenient!
