What are the chances....?

So DH and I just signed a contract for our first DVC purchase! It is currently in ROFR, and we are expected to close at the beginning of November. Based on the "who's passed ROFR thread", I feel pretty confident about our odds of passing. Given a normal timeline, we should be receiving our membership booklet by mid - late November. So here's the situation:

The contract is a December UY, and there are 11 banked points that expire 12/1/2013. When we made the offer, I had counted on those points just going to waste because there was no way we'd close in time to be able to use them. HOWEVER, we already have a trip planned from 12/1 - 12/5 on rented points. So, what are the odds that we would be able to make a quick, last-minute reservation for the night of 11/30 and extend our trip one day with those 11 points? We would be open to staying anywhere and to borrowing a couple of points from our 2013 year if needed. Should I even think about this as a possibility or will those dates definitely be full by the time our membership info comes through??

I do realize there are a lot of contingencies (passing ROFR, closing going smoothly, getting documents on time, etc.). I'm just curious if this could be a possibility if everything with the purchase goes as planned. Like I said, I wasn't counting on being able to use these points, so if it did work out, it would just be an added bonus:)

Your chances aren't very good, but people do cancel at the last minute. If you are driving (and so don't need to set your dates in stone for an airplane), you can keep looking right up until 11/29. You never know.

The DIS discourages posting actual availability because it is only a snapshot in time and can change very quickly. We also do not know who is on the waitlist for the night you want or for what size/booking category they want. It's certainly possible that something will be available when you are ready to book.

Good luck!

It is during the highest DVC demand time of the year but you never know when you can get lucky and catch a room open even close to a date, particularly if you are seeking only one night. Once you have access to points, you should just keep checking often even up to a couple days before (assuming you are driving; obviously as mentioned above, you won't be able to easily change flights that close to arrival date if flying except possibly for an ungodly fare increase).

Thank you!! We are driving, so we will keep our plans flexible up until the end. But it sounds like it is unlikely, so I will not get my hopes up:). Thanks for the input!

It may take another month after you close before you are fully in the system.
