What are the chances of getting into Ohana's for dinner as a walk up? I have been trying everday to try and get a ressie but they are booked solid for my trip in December. Has anybody had any luck with this and if so did you have a long wait? :cutie:

everyone who has posted in response to this has said be there at opening. that sounds like good advice to me......good luck!:yay:

I went at opening last Sept during Free dining...No luck whatsoever for a party of 3. Maybe this year with the online double booking/no shows you will have btter luck

I think opening is at 5pm. That's what it was last month when we went. At opening, there was a huge line! We waited in line 15minutes just to check in for our 5pm reservation. It's very difficult to get in there.

If you're flexible about possibly not getting in and certainly ready to wait then you might give it a try. Interestingly, while the line was sooo long for Ohana (leading right past Kona Cafe), Kona Cafe was practically empty. So maybe that's a good back-up plan.

We ate at Kona twice last weekend and each time saw HUGE numbers of people waiting outside Ohana. I think in general that character meals are the LEAST likely restaurants to take walk ups because they really do try to seat everyone in a certain time window, then send out the characters on their rounds. To the best of my knowledge, they can't/won't seat an open table once the characters are moving around.

We had breakfast at Chef Mickey's last Sunday, and even though it didn't look particularly busy, I saw several people asking about walk-ups who were turned away.

We just got back from Disney, and I got into Chef Mickey's by calling them directly from my resort.

This might work for you if the person you are speaking to is nice enough. I would call beforehand, early in the day. Not just walk up.

Good luck!

We had our laptop in August & noticed that a lot of restaurants would open within 24hrs due to cancellations. We had to cancel our California Grill reservation & I could've grabbed an opening last minute (although we decided not to). It doesn't hurt to check the day before & see if anything opens up.

Also we had the same problem with Ohana the year before during free dining & we couldn't get anything, even though I checked every single day of our vacation. They kept telling us at the desk that our chances weren't good, because they were showing Ohana as being OVER-booked all week.

We settled for Kona on our very last night for 5 of us at 9pm. When we went to check-in around 8:30, I noticed the Tambu lounge area looked pretty quiet so for the heck of it I checked at the Ohana podium & they said, "yes but it'll be about a 30 minute wait" as if that was a problem. Ha I was thrilled & of course we said "We'll take it!". We walked over to the Kona podium & cancelled, then sat at the bar & had a drink. A little more than 30 mins went by & when we were called for a table, I noticed there were a lot of empty tables at that point & we ended up with a table by the window with a MK view for Wishes. It was perfect!

So even though people say to check at opening, getting there later in the evening worked for us in this instance. Good luck!

Just keep checking for ressies...we got our Ohana's in August about a week before our trip on a fluke! I had resigned myself to settling for Kona so I was searching for a time...it said none were available and offered Ohana as an alternative! :confused3:rotfl:

Are you trying online or by calling in? I would try both methods as I've been told no by one system only to find an ADR by using the other one - good luck!

Thanks everyone! I will keep calling and checking online religiously, if that doesn't work I will try to walk up. TIA!!

I figure I am going to have to camp outside 'Ohana for our upcoming, last minute trip for my son's birthday. I have been spending waaay too much time on the computer to no avail, hoping for a chance. But what else to do - when I asked what my son would like for his birthday meal, he looked at me and said solemnly "It really doesn't matter mom, as long as we get to eat at 'Ohana sometime during our trip..."
I might be hoop de doo-ed!!!!

We had ressies last year and we still had to wait 90 minutes before we were going to be seated. We ended up leaving as it was really late and our DD18 mos (at the time) had enough for the day. So I am not one to think walk ups have much of a chance anymore.

It seems the dining plan is killing all hope of walk up ressies anymore

I don't think it is the dining plan, per se - but the free dining. There is also some greed when it comes to making reservations and some people have reservations they do not intend to use - but they keep them until they make up their minds. ;) Things may clear up as the time gets closer.

I see that you're staying at the Grand Floridian - you can also check at the concierge desk when you arrive to see if there is an opening during your stay.
