What are some ways that you keep cool at WDW?

We are going in June so I'm sure it will be pretty hot when we go. How do you cope? Water rides are the obvious but what else? I'm thinking of those portable misting fans . . . anybody have one? Where did you get it and how much $.

Last year we went in June and it got pretty toasty. I bought the spray bottle with the attached fan. I got them at wal mart for about $6. Honestly, the kids enjoyed just spritzing themselves and each other. They even had a water fight in the front entrance of MK. The fan came in handy when the little guy fell alseep in the stroller. I rigged the fan to the inside and it helped to keep him coo. This year, I am only using the spray part. Good luck and don't lose your cool! :cool1:

I bought some little portabe fans from the QVC website. One clips on, and the other has a base. They take AA's and also have a little light show when you turn them on; it's great for small kids. I use these in the stroller and then use a spray bottle to keep us sprayed with water. We also freeze bottles of water the night before we head to the park. Make sure you go back to your hotel for the hottest part of the day. This makes a world of difference because then you never get seriously overheated and spend the rest of the day recovering.

They sell the battery operated spray fans at walmart for about $8, we bought one at MGM for $17 wish I had known sooner.

We took a towel from the hotel (yes we returned it!) and kept it wet all day. There were so many places to wet it...it was the best idea and free!

I purchased some cooling neck bands from our local wal-mart during our sept. 2003 trip. You can find them in the sporting goods section. They did make a world of difference. Only downside is that they can leave a residue on your skin. Didn't bother me, though. I think I paid about 2.00 apiece. Wish they would have been a bit wider though. You just soak them in water (can't freeze them though), and wear them on the back of the neck. I agree with Grumpy Girl too. Never used towels, but have used thick wash cloths. Must be something that won't dry out quickly. The hotel cloths worked great. Thick and absorbent.

Kathy,

We'll be there at the same time June 13-21, also at CBR for our first trip. See you at the pool with the million other people, that'll keep us cool! :cool1:

I purchased those little fans (personal size) that either clip to beltloops or hang from neck and we bring one for everbody. I think we only paid $1 apiece for them. :worship:

They tend to be less bulky than the mist bottles and fit right in a small backpack or purse......

We went to MK one year in May. I think it was like a hundred degrees that day or felt like it. We went into Hall of Presidents and it was mighty cool in there...The shows not terribly exciting but long enough to give my husband and I a refreshing nap from the mid-day sun. ;)

BTW :hyper2: If you like the mist/fan type better Walmart clearanced their mist/fan bottles last year around late fall and we got some for only $1.50....

Put those little blue ice packs in the freezer than in the backpack then down the cleavage! :teeth: It works! If you are too afraid of the first option try the shoulder it helps too!

Last summer I purchased the misting fans at the Dollar Tree ($1.00) My grandson loved this. Some man at MK tried to buy from him!

We are going again this June, and I looked for them yesterday but didn't find any. Maybe they're a summer item, and not in stock yet.

We were at ASmo last June, the pool was almost too warm to cool you off.
Any of the restaraunts are glad to give out cups of ice if you ask.

As many are posting, unless you want to pay $17.00 for a misting fan at WDW, find one at Wal-mart or Target before you go.

The misting fans work great and I also bring a facecloth from the room with us. I keep it wet in a plastic bag and keep refreshing it throughout the day. It is amazing how by just putting it on your neck for a short while how it cools you down. Pace yourself, no commando style at that time of year. And of course drink plenty of water. It is doable in the heat as long as you plan for it. :sunny: :sunny: :sunny:
Enjoy

What actually works REALLY well as a cooling cloth is a flat cloth diaper. (Not the kind with the heavy panel down the center, just the flat piece of cotton birdseye.) They are bigger than a facecloth and much lighter than a towel, also thin enough to tie around your neck, though they are super-absorbent.
No one who sees it will know it's a diaper; it justs looks like a large white handkerchief. They make good dustcloths, too; I buy a pack every so often and keep 2-3 solely for cooling purposes.

Drink a lot of water, and use a good sunBLOCK, lots of it. Reapplying every hour will actually help your skin literally stay cooler (part of the hot sensation is a side-effect of your skin getting cooked by UV). Misting fans are great. Also, carry some ibuprofen, etc. in case you get a headache; you'll want to stop it before it gets serious. If anyone comments that you are looking oddly pale, get indoors and wet yourself down immediately; that is a warning for heatstroke.

I finally found some of these at Sports Authority, but more $$$, just under $4.00 each. Will also pick up some mister fans before we go. I like the diaper idea too, may have to look into that. We are going in Sept.

we have gone to the world during August three times - crazy I know

but this trick really saved us

every morning before leaving the room i would take a couple of ziplock and throw in a wash cloth and fill it half way with ice from the ice machine at the hotel

what a wonderful feeling to pull that out of your bag and put on your neck or forehead during those HOT HOT HUMID HUMID August days and nights

this years we are going in April - no more August for me!!!!!

The misting bottles are wonderful! Get the ones that have the opening for ice. Any counter service will give you a glass of ice for free. Just be careful that you don't spritz other people standing by you in line! I accidentally did this one year and, even though I apologized profusely, I got a very ugly look!

We also make sure that we wear white T-shirts. It makes us a little pale looking in pictures from the reflection, but it also keeps us cooler than colored T-shirts. Wear a hat and sunglasses too.

We also tend to go into the stores whenever we get hot for some nice a/c. We don't buy anything, just window shop. The cushioned floors help the old dogs too.

We also carry water with us into the parks. After we go through the small bottle we bring with us we usually each buy one of the big bottles for the afternoon and we make sure to drink that.

Stay away from caffeine to prevent dehydration. Coffee is much worse to drink for the amount of caffeine than coke. Tea is the best if you must have caffeine.
