Buy your souvenirs ahead of time and bring them down with you. We saved lots of money just because I bought Disney stuff at Dollar Tree, Target, Big Lots and Disneystore.com during their semiannual sale. For instance, a small plushie at the parks will cost around $9.00 but on Cyber Monday it only cost $3.33.
I also tried to make the souvenirs more special by making them Tinkerbelle gifts. Tinkerbelle gifts work similar to Santa stocking stuffers. We told them that if they are good in the parks, Tinkerbell might leave them some treats in the hotel room. They decorated gifts bags in anticipation of the gifts and when we got ready to leave, I lagged behind for a few minutes and put a few things in the bags. They got the gifts except for Hollywood STudios day. They were not very good that day so I was in the room first and put their stuff back in my suitcase.
