what are some good cheap hotels near universal studios hollywood?

"Good" and "cheap" do not exist near Universal Studios Hollywood...at least not IMHO. There are some dicey areas outside of the immediate vicinity of the Studios, not bad necessarily, but some areas you want to avoid.

What do you define as "cheap"? If it's less than $200 per night, it can be done.
