What are my options? Rent pts? Cancel?

I never thought I wouldn't use all of our points for the year, but here I am and I'm not sure of what the best thing to do is? I'm looking for advice or previous experiences- Thanks in advance!!

We have a ressie at SSR: March 25th in a 1 bdrm, March 26 & 27 in a studio, totalling 55 pts. Here is the problem, these are borrowed and my use year is September. If I cancel they go into holding and I'm not going to be able to go before they expire. Should I try to rent the existing reservation, or should I cancel and try to rent the points? Is there a third option, I don't want to just let them go to waste.

Thanks again,
:)

I would try to rent the reservation(s) before cancelling them. At this point, they will go into the Holding Account whether you cancel tomorrow or the day before arrival - so why not see if they could be rented before cancelling. Just be sure to cancel before the arrival date.

You actually have 2 separate reservations - but will only be able to post them one at a time on the DIS Rent/Trade Board - so be sure to phrase your post properly.

If you are unable to rent the reservations, you can still offer the Holding Account points for rent and see what happens. Be sure you are familiar with the restrictions for Holding points (they may only be used to make reservations for arrival within the next 60 days).

If you do have any other reservations already scheduled before the end of your Use Year, you could see if MS would allow you to substitute the borrowed points for current points - and thus be able to bank or transfer the current points. If you don't have that as an option, renting the points or reservation is your only option if you can't use them yourself.

Good luck! :)

Doc,

If I put it on the rent/trade board, can I say here is a ressie for the 25th and look for my other post for the 26 & 27th?

Thanks

No- actually, you will only be allowed to have one active "Reservation for Rent" post on the board at a time. Once the first one has rented, you can post the second. Please don't make any mention of the second reservation until you have rented the first one - and have "Closed" the first thread. Be sure to read the "Posting Rules" at the top of the board.

Hopefully, you can find someone to rent one quickly and can then offer the next one - your challenge is to choose the one that will be easier to rent as your first post (I'd offer the 2 Studio nights first).

Good luck! :)
