What are my chances?

Hello all! Thanks for any input in advance!

I'm considering renting DVC points for our next trip - something I've never done. Currently, I'm considering either a January 2009 or June 2009 trip. There will be 6 adults and 1 baby in our group.

What are the chances that I could secure a 2-bedroom villa, preferrably at BWV or VWL (but willing to consider other choices) if we go in January?

Depends how far ahead you are willing to book and what "view" you prefer.

BWV owners can make reservations at the BWV as soon as 11 months ahead of the desired check out date. Keep in mind that most owners who rent consider the transaction to be nonrefundable. Be sure to be clear about the owner's change/cancellation policy. The policies differ between owners.

If you are willing to commit 11 months ahead of time, you will almost certainly be able to secure a standard view unit (less points) or a guaranteed Boardwalk view unit. The latter cost the same number of points as the Pool/garden view rooms, but are quite limited in number. The Boardwalk view units and the standard view units each make up approximately 20% of the available rooms (thus the Pool/garden view units are about 60% of the available units). The Boardwalk view and Standard view units book quickly - usually before the 7 month booking window opens. That's when any DVC member can use points to reserve at the BWV.

If you wait until after the 7 month window opens, the chances of getting either a SV or BW view unit are nearly zero. Chances of getting a Pool/Garden unit are still pretty good, but will decrease rapidly once you get past the first few days after the 7 month window opens. This is especially true for mid to late June, Marathon weekend (in January) and the MLK Holiday.

You may need to pay more per point to acquire a reservation before the 7 month window opens, but if you get exactly what you want, when you want it, it may be worth it to you. If you are flexible with dates or don't really care which resort you stay in, you may be able to find less expensive points by waiting until 7 months or less to rent.

Make your plans accordingly.

Your January reservation should have been booked back in February. There may still some availability but you better get busy.

A two bedroom villa at the BWV will be a lockoff. That means a studio connected to a one bedroom villa. Two separate entrances with a door between the two units. There are no dedicated two bedroom villas at BWV.

When you say Jan 09, when are you talking about? If early in the month, you could have a hard time getting either with New Years and the marathon.

If you are looking for June 09, you'll be able to get that booked in July 08 by a member with points at the resort you want.

When you say six adults, will four adults share the second bedroom or will two adults sleep on the sleeper sofa in the living room?
