What Are My Chances - 2 studios AKV

My sister is a school teacher and doesn't quite appreciate the planning that goes into my DisneyWorld vacations. She has decided today-Christmas Eve that she would like to go to Disney with me and can only go Easter or Passover break. I chose Passover in April as I thought this would be less crowded and a better chance for accommodations. Right now 2 SSR studios are all that is available for the week we can go. What are my chances for a waitlist at the new Animal Kingdom Villas? Since I know that the VWL (my home resort) is definitely out of the question, AKV is my second choice and I think my then 4 year old nephew would love the animals. Will there be any more studios completed by then and added to the inventory? I don't mind calling every day but with needing two studios - I am afraid to get one and then we'll be split up and I don't want to do that. Any advice would be appreciated.
:santa: MERRY CHRISTMAS to all you DISers:santa:

I would think your chances are about 50/50. I'd go ahead and make the reservations at SSR and have them wait-list you for AKV. That way you know you are going and can make the rest of your arrangements. If the wait-list comes through then its a bonus.

Also you mentioned that your home resort, VWL is out of the question. Is this because you'd prefer not to stay there or think that there would be no availability? I'd take the advice above- go ahead and book SSR and waitlist your other preferences. I once booked SSR ( my home resort is OKW ) and wtl OKW and VWL, with VWL being my first preference. First OKW opened up and we switched our ressie, then VWL so we switched again. You never know who might change plans. Most of us know to book early and then cancel vs. not being able to find availability at all. Good luck!---Kathy

And you never know what will open up. I have BCV points, so I book THAT first at 11 months, and if I want another resort, I switch out at 7 months. And then, boom, I open up that BCV room.

Thanks to all of you for the advice. I will book SSR and waitlist AKV. I figured VWL was out of the question because they have the least number of rooms. VWL would be my preference but I am not sure my sister and her family's as I really do think her son will love the animals whether or not we get a Savanna view room and I really do like the fact that they are brand new. Thanks again and now I'm off to call MS.

One good thing in your favor to waitlist at AKV, is that DVC will be declaring new inventory in January. DVC can not book a rooom until it has been declared.

SWEET!! That's what I was hoping to hear. Thanks for all the great advice and info.

The stated completion date of ALL of Jambo house is Jan 28th, according to the DVC member site FAQ.

Having said that, there's no real way to know exactly when in Jan they'll declare that inventory, but it's safe to assume it will be RIGHT around then.

I don't think you mentioned the number of people, but would a 1 or 2 bedroom work as well? It might be easier to book than 2 studios. Generally, studios book up faster than 1 bedrooms.

It will be 5 adults and my nephew almost 4 years old. I am trying to go light on points since I will have to borrow from 2008 so instead of a two bedroom, I was going to go with two studios. Right now the only availability is studios at SSR and 1 bedroom at OKW. But if I could book the two bedroom at VAK or is it AKV?? then I might just borrow and go from Sunday to Saturday and save on one of the weekend nights. Sunday to Friday to me just isn't long enough with all I want to do, I think I would feel jipped. Thanks for all the advice, but the airfare is what's holding me back now. If you want good flight times for that week your spending $375 and up a ticket, I have never spent that to go from NY to Disney, but I guess that is what happens when schools are out. Oh well - I'll just keep trying.
