What are DVC points?

This is a lot harder right now, we have been trying for about 6 weeks to find someone to rent from. I put out about 15 inquiries and no one has replied.

BUT we did do it in October and it was sooooo worth it.

I started in Feb with the process and it took about 3 weeks to get things together. I got at least 3 responses a day before I settled on an individual. The hardest part was paying for something that is 7 months in advance and is basically non-refundable.

Looks like things are going for $9 or $10 per point. I was hoping for just a little less, is that possible? I think I need 143 points for our trip or if my parents stay as well it would be more.

I saw distressed points going for less, but $10 seems to be the norm.

Due to the small number of units at VGC you'll need to plan ahead 7 - 11 months especially during peak times.

Slightly off-topic, but if 50 of the units are DVC, then are the rest of the rooms on the new wing just regular rooms? It would seem these would offer some very nice theme park views. But they would be a very far walk to parks!

They are regular rooms. I do not have a clue what the config. is but it would be interesting to know.

Can you rent points and get a regualr room at one of the hotels? Not the Villas? I tried looking for points but I couldnt find a chart for that.

With everything I have read so far I have not seen anything eluding to renting points for a regular. I have posted the Villas points chart, here it is again....http://www.dvc-resales.com/grand-californian/index.htm

..and if you want to make it even easier, but pay a bit higher rental price, a sponser of the DIS boards is a rental broker. You'll see his ads on the DVC/Rental board.
When you buy DVC you buy a certain number of points (if through Disney minimum is 160 or sometimes 100, if through resale you can get in the system for as little as 25 points). Then you have those points to use every year for up to 50 years. After your initial cost the only fees are yearly maintainence fees. You buy at a home resort and this gives you booking ability there at 11 months to 7 months. At 7 months, any DVC owner can book at your resort and you can book at any other resort. You can bank and borrow points and you can go anytime you like and stay in anything from a studio to a grand villa. Very adaptable. If you are at all interested, check out the DVC section here on the DIS. It is certainly not for everyone, but it works very very well for many. Look at it as pre paying for your vacation for the rest of your life(except for trivial things like transportation, tickets, food, etc )

You can no longer use points to get a regular room at VGC, but you can still use points to get a room at DLH and PP. However, the point useage for those rooms is higher than VGC.

You could (as Nunzia said it's only at PPH and DLH), but the total might not wind up making sense, compared to AP discounts, regular discounts, etc...

It is cheaper to pay for the hotel (DLH/PPH) with cash in most cases than with points even if the owner if renting for $10 a point.

If you are paying 10 per point, your whole trip will cost only $1,430, which I am guessing would be well less than half the price if you booked the same rooms for cash.

I was looking at the studio 34 points for 2 nights. I would love love to stay there. Perfect treat for my girls get away trip.

You can however it depends on which week. The DVC boards here have some info on trading in.
