What are Disney Dollars & are they worth it?

They are Disney money. They sort of look like monopoly money. They are bought and worth dollar for dollar face value. So "worth it" is sort of moot.

They do have some use though- 1) they make great gifts for kids getting ready for a trip. Sort of a way to save toward the trip. 2) You can purchase them with a credit / debit card. There is no fee, and they spend like cash. So, rather then pay for the ATM fee or cash advance fee you can buy disney dollars.

If you buy some, hold on to your receipt- they will buy some back from you if you have too many at the end of your trip. They also have gift cards for in park use now. They also would be away around service fees.

I like the idea of buying Disney Dollars in the park instead of having an ATM charge, but where can you buy them in the park. Does every store sell them or just specific ones.

Thanks so much

Not just great gifts for kids....I am 32 and still ask for them for birthdays and christmas!

DDollars really are just like a gift card, except in cash increments, and as described above, like monopoly money. You can get cash back from purchases when you use DDollars, so that is different from a gift card. I believe you can purchase them at world of Disney and maybe city hall??? Usually, we get them at Disney Stores prior to leaving.

Disney Dollars are great to give to kids before your trip! My boys each got some before we left for our trip this past June. I bought them at our local Disney Store. You just basically trade your money for theirs, dollar for dollar. They are the size of regular bills and come in the regular 1's, 5's, 10's, etc. etc. The bills have a Disney character on the front, and there are different ones to choose from. My boys will be getting some this year from Santa as we're going just before Christmas.

My boys got some in their Easter baskets, and DS6 has also been earning them for extra-good behavior and helpfulness.

I know we bought them at the Emporium on main street in May.

I was just there a couple of weeks ago. I think you can get them at the World of Disney Store in DD, but I'm not completely positive about it. I know for certain that in DL, you can buy them at the main register in the Emporium on Main Street, or at Guest Relations. You can also buy them at the photo shop in California Adventure.

For the 50th Celebration, they have released two sets of Disney Dollars
$1 has either Dumbo or Cinderella
$5 has either Donald or ???
$10 has either Minnie or Stitch
For the first time ever, they made a $50 and it features Mickey Mouse.

We use them as a way to save for our trip. For me, its easier not to spend them because with cash or a savings account, it there.... I can spend it on whatever I may want. :teeth: With the Disney $, I can only spend them at DL, WDW or the Disney Store.....

Great tip! I wish I would've known this a couple of weeks ago when I didn't have cash and wanted to buy a cart item. These can be used everywhere, correct? I'd love to keep a Disney Dollar allowance set aside strictly for Dole Whips :cool1:

I bought some at our local Disney store and I've been giving them to my dd4 for good behavior. They will be hers to spend on whatever she'd like when we go to WDW. The $1 bills have either Mickey Mouse or Cinderella, $5 Goofy or Donald.

Sorry to be OT, but Sleepingbeautymama, where did you get your ticker? I love it!
