I ordered my airtickets on Delta.com last week. For some strange reason it put my DH and I on two different rows on the way down  and side by side on the way back. I called Delta and explained that this was DH first trip on plane and we wanted to sit together. I had requested a window seat but I told her we would take anything as long as we could sit next to each other. She said that there were some open window seats next to the exit door but she didn't want to put him there since it was his first flight. She was afraid it would scared him (not sure why) . Then said said that she would put us next to a window in row 10 seats A & B :D and that they are bulkhead. I told her thanks and we hung up. A few minutes later, after the rush of relief settled over me, I thought what in the world are bulkhead seats??? Does that mean there is not much overhead room? I searched there site but found nothing. Can someone clue me in of BULK HEAD seats!!! I don't want any suprises at the airport!!!

The bulkhead seats are the seats that have a wall in front of then instead of other seats.
It's different on different planes, but if the plane has a first class section it may be the first row of coach with the wall separating the coach from 1st. class. You don't have a row of seats in front of you so you can't store carry ons under the seat in front of you, but there should be an overhead bin to put carry ons in.

The leg room should be good.

you also have your trays come out of the arm rests. the armrests do not go up either. many people for some reason always want these seats.

And because the trays are stored in the arm rests & the arm rests do not go up, the seats are not as wide as other seats. I asked for these seats one time thinking my husband would get more leg room. Well, the seats were not wide enough, & the flight attendants could have cared less - we had to find some strangers who were willing to trade seats with us. Maybe that is why we prefer driving to flying :)!

Bulkhead seats usually offer a little more legroom, but IMHO the inconvenience of not having room under the seat in front of you for a carry on and having a somewhat narrower seat is not a good trade.

I'm suprised she even mentioned the exit row seats, these are supposed to be assigned by the gate agents after they see the passenger. They are only to be assigned to passengers who are able bodied enough (and old enough) to assist in an emergency. Also the pax must be able to understand English on US domestic flights, and be able to hear in order to obey FA's instructions.

I have a much better picture of what our seats are going to look like now!! I'm excited that no one will be able to lean their seat back into my lap!!! :D

Since there is no place to put carry-on stuff under the seat in front of me, I will have to put it in the bins overhead. Will I be able to stand up and get my stuff out of the bins during flight?? I want to read some of my Disney books. :earsgirl:

Also, will I have to store my purse in an overhead bin?? :( I'm not sure about that! If I wear a fanny pack can I leave that on or do I have to store it??

And since I'm asking so many questions, here's one more. We are flying on Delta. What about luggage?? Do they have a limit on size and weight of bags? Also is there a limit to the number of bags one can take??:bounce:

As long as the fasten seat belts sign is turned off you can get up to get things out of the overhead. I would advise instead to store your books in the little pockets on the bulkhead in front of you.

A few months ago DH and I sat by the exit door on our flight. I tucked my handbag in behind my legs for takeoff and landing, we each had a book that we tucked into the seat along side of us as well. Yes, you can wear and leave on a fanny pack as an option.

Most carriers allowed three pieces of luggage, up to two can be carry ons, per person. However when you are on a full flight, there is often not enough room for everyones caryr on, so the last people on (that would be you by the sounds of it) will have to gate check carryons. When it's looking that full often the gate agents will tell people in the boarding area in advance only one carryon will be allowed on, and all must check second piece.

Your handbag is generally not considered a carryon, unles syou carry a larger bag that could be a small overnight bag for a light packer.

They used to give the bulkheads to people with children or the disabled, but these days they usually get saved for members of elite clubs or business travelers who pay full coach fare. The seats are prized because of the legroom.

Delta will allow you to book exit row seats right on the website. You have to answer a few questions, but, once you answer them in a satisfactory manner, they allow you to book it.

Specifically ask for non-bulkhead seats if you are carrying anything valuable. Sometimes you won't be able to cary anything onboard because the overhead bins are full. Even if there is bin space, it might be not in your range of sight and the bag could still be stolen.

If you "can't" find space for your carry-on, do not simply sit down with it against the bulkhead. Ask for help right away. Otherwise they will simply take the bags away from you at the last minute to be checked.
