What and what not to take

So, I know I saw a couple of packing list threads...but I can't find them (albeit I'm being lazy and not looking that hard) But I just had a couple of questions about things.

I know I need to go out and get bed stuff still, but I think that is the only thing I really need to buy.
I want to also get a coffee/espresso maker, a griddle or George Foreman grill maybe, and a water purifier (either a faucet one, or a pitcher)
Will there be space for this stuff?

Is there like a pantry to keep food in? My boyfriend's mom gave me a huge bag of like canned soups and things to take with me (I'll have enough food for like 3 weeks), but I don't want to take up all of our cabinet space with my food.

So here's a list of things that I'm not sure whether or not to bring:
Cleaning items
a vaccuum/dust buster
broom/dustpan
a foot locker
some baskets for toiletries and such
maybe a couple of plastic totes for storage
and the aforementioned items (coffee pot, griddle, and water purifier)


Also, I want to bring my wii, and my playstation...is this a good or bad idea?

The site says to bring a phone card and a cordless phone...are these things necessary? Because I'll have my cell phone, which I'll probably just use that most of the time.

Should I get a wireless router now, or wait and get it after I get there?

Is it a good idea to label all of your things (namely DVDs and such that could get mixed up?)

Lastly, what sorts of clothes will I need? I'm bringing mostly casual, but what kind of professional clothing will I need?


My roommate gave me a heads up on the beds...and said it would be a good idea to get a foam mattress thing because the beds are weird, is there anything else like that, that I might not think about? and Anything on my list that I should really avoid bringing?

hey! there is a good sized pantry, and we split it up so that everybody (my three roommates and myself) had their own shelf. we could fit quite a bit of food on it, and even stored four flats of water in there. the refrigerator/freezer was a little more difficult to squeeze everything in, especially if we all went shopping on the same day. you'll be able to get all your food down there, but it may feel comforting to bring some of your own. i flew down with two suitcases of clothes and bedding, and felt so barren!

you'll want to bring storage containers, it'll make life easier. the foot locker probably won't be necessary, we had a very large closet (in chatham square) or you can always toss your shoes under the bed. you'll also want a laundry basket. in chatham you have to walk down the street to a separate building to do laundry. i found one of those mesh sacks worked best. it was easier to toss it over your shoulder like santa clause, then lug around one of those plastic baskets.

if i remember correctly the apartment had a broom and dustpan when we got there. i could be completely making this up, but i'm certain there was one there. we did have to buy a vacuum cleaner, but it was easy to get a cheap one at walmart and split the cost. you'll DEFINITELY want eggshells to put on the bed. believe me, the beds are rock solid.

there's something really weird about lake buena vista water that makes you not want to drink it. with that said, a purifier might be a good idea, but we just bought flats of bottled water. that way we could stick them in our bags and bring them to the parks/work. the coffee maker and griddle might also come in handy. you might want to wait and see if your roommates bring one, since you won't need more than one. if they dont, it would be an easy thing to pick up at walmart and split the cost.

as far as the clothes, disney is VERY strict when it comes to the professional clothing, particularly the shoes. they dont allow shows to be open toed AND open healed, and actually didnt allow people to attend Traditions classes if they were not dressed properly. you'll want to have at least 2-3 nice professional outfits. if you plan on taking classes, you will need to bring more. you should be able to find a pretty detailed list on the website. you'll be safe with a few pairs of dress pants, button down shirts, sweaters, ballet flats, heels, etc.

I'd say yes to basically everything you have listed...maybe not the wii AND playstation, but whatever floats your boat.

There are no cleaning supplies for you IN the apartment but you can borrow a vacuum or broom from housing. Anything you want to cook with, bring. If you want coffee bring the coffee maker. DEFINITELY bring the water purifier!!! Florida water is grrroooossssss.

I never once used the cordless phone someone brought. There is already a phone in the apartment I think? but a roommate brought a nicer one. She was the only one who used it to call people. I just used my cellphone for everything

You'll have plenty of room for food. The way we divided up space for a 6 person apartment was that each of us took a cabinet. So I kept all of my dry foods in one cabinet, that way we all knew where our own stuff was and didn't have to worry about other people eating our food. We all also labeled whatever we put in the fridge. I have a picture of our kitchen if you want to see what they look like...

A suggestion for the bed: Bring a foam mattress thing and get bed risers! You can get them from Walmart...they'll raise your bed by 6 inches or a foot or something...so you can fit way more under your bed and your room won't be so crowded. I was able to fit my luggage and laundry basket all under the bed.

The clothes depend on if you plan on taking classes. Here are the guidelines for something like Traditions:

This is also what you'd be wearing to classes so just plan accordingly. You could probably just bring one pair of nice pants and a skirt and a couple tops and be fine for classes...

Just rememeber, Whatever you're thinking about bringing, so are your roommates. So if you want to leave something behind, dont sweat it. In our living room we had 1 xbox, 2 xbox360s, 2 wiis, a playstation2 and 3, two sets of rockband, and 2 TVs. you get what im saying? not to mention TVs in 2 of the 3 bedrooms.

Though, the two TVs came in handy when there were multiple football games on that day.

Just to touch on the kitchen issue..... You will have a ordinary size kitchen, with cabinets, a full-size refrigerator, microwave, dual sink, dish washer, and I think a toaster(not sure about the toaster). Something else that will be provided are: plates, bowls, drinking glasses, pots and pans, and silverware, you can, though, bring additional plates and things if you would like and there is enough room to add other things on the counter, although I should say from experience, make sure that the dishes stay clean so they won't take up counter and/or sink space. Besides, you start to lose that "This is so new and I'm working for Disney and I'm living in an apartment that is on Disney property(which is something a lot of people don't know)" feel. WOW THAT WAS A RUN-ON SENTENCE lol!! but i digress. Just make sure your kitchen stays clean.

but what he did was buy a lock box and locked it up when he wasnt using it
might be a little paraniod but its back home now and still in perfect condition
i have a wii too
but im not sure if ill take it
i think ill just bring my DS to get my nintendo fix

I lived in a 3 bedroom in Chatham and had one shelf in the pantry and barely any room for food in the fridge/cabinets. If you don't want to make too many waves with your roommates, I'd limit how much food you bring down. I had a roommate who took up a shelf, an entire cabinet, 1/3 of the fridge, and had a HUGE tupperware tubs (those huge storage ones) full of junk food in her closet. Highly unneccasary to have so much food when you're barely home anyways.

Cleaning supplies - Wait until you move down and buy them with your roommates and each pay a share.

No cordless phone or calling crds. I think they forget that we're not in the stone age anymore and most people use cell phones.

I wouldn't take too many totes for storage. The bedrooms are small when you have another person sharing it with you.

And only bring your game stations if you don't mind the possibility of something happening to them. Even if you trust your roommates, you can't always trust the people they bring over. I had a roommate who was actually a transfer from another apartment that she shared with a girl who let a random dude (not in the program) stay the night and he ended up stealing my roommate's digital camera.
