Hi gang!

I just got my confirmation from Florida Tours today for our trip (who have been fabulous so far by the way!) and I started to get excited about the 30 minute grocery shopping trip we get (I know, I'm sad!). I am going to ask for a Publix or Walmart, but even looking on their websites makes me a bit overwhelmed. How can you have 121 different types of cereal bar?!?!

So apart from buying some bottled water and sniffing the laundry detergent section (mmmm, Tide!), I want to know what else I should pick up?

What snack foods are must buys? What are the perfect post-park pick-me ups? What foods are always in your rucksacks in the parks?

Any help and delicious suggestions would be appreciated! (but nothing with cheese in, or involves a fridge since my swap went awol)

I am sure you will be overwhelmed by the choices. I was just going to suggest you buy a Styrofoam cooler and fill it with ice everyday and you can keep things cold that way. My daughter fridge went missing for Dec, and that is what they are going to do. If you want a certain brand of soda, buy that. It is about half price from the parks.I need Pepsi and I swear all of Florida only carries Coke products! You can get microwave popcorn and pop it at the food court. Have fun on your shopping trip. You have a great idea looking online. Go to garden grocer and see what they have and write down some of the things you think you might like. Then when you go to the store, just ask for the product and you will not waste time looking for it.

If you go to Publix...try their fried chicken.

Or get a sub made fresh. They are really good.

I dont eat cereal bars...so I'm not sure which is best.

Publix has a great bakery. We had also enjoyed their rostisserie chicken. I bought some candies that were Gatorland's (coconut patties).

I like the Special K bars (chocolate pretzel). NC Beast likes Nutragrain, Nature Valley, Special K, and a couple of others.

There aren't many things now we can't get here (which is a good thing:cool1:) It always used to be Oreo cookies, couldn't believe they wouldn't sell them here so glad they now do, mmmm double stuff. Mountain Dew is still hard to find here but is really a 'holiday' thing for me a good caffeine replacement as I don't drink as much coffee in the heat. Cool aid is still unique I think to the US, I can't stand it but takes me back to our first trips when I was a kid so get that now for mine to try!

We usually hire a car and with Kevin since it was mentioned on the podcast the chicken is our meal on arrival day while we settle in our DVC home.

Froot Loops.

Actually since you like those so much you might want to try Post Fruity Pebbles if you can find them at the store you stop at. We prefer the Malt o Meal brand in the bag over the Post but they are harder to come by. Malt o meal calls them Fruity Dynobites. http://www.walmart.com/ip/Malt-O-Meal-Dyno-Bites-Fruity-Cereal-42-oz/10292160 They do sell them in a smaller bag as well.

Not sure if they have them in Florida or not as they tend to be a regional brand but anything made by Tasty Kake bakeries is also good. Our favorite is the Peanut Butter Kandy Kakes. Check out their website here:

My son loves blueberry Pop Tarts. They are a must bring into the parks for him for either a quick breakfast or a good snack. Kellogg's brand is the best.

We like the nutri-grain cereal bars. We prefer blueberry, strawberry, apple cinnamon, and cherry. My personal fav is apple cinnamon. If you are not sure what to try look and see if they have a variety pack. Sometimes they have these esp. in the generic brands. The generic of these is just as good as the brand name IMO.

Enjoy your trip.

Froot Loops, Lucky Charms, NERDS!!!!!

Sorry, that's my inner-self telling me I need to go to Cyber Candy again! :lmao:

Since we are going around lunch time, those subs sound like a good idea! :thumbsup2

A lot of the really popular stuff you can buy in the UK, but I want to try some of the good stuff that hasn't made it's way over yet!

I have heard Mountain Dew is good, so i'l be picking me up a bottle of that! :thumbsup2 Plus cool aid reminds me of childhood trips to WDW. The first time I came, we had won the trip in a slogan competition, my mom used to love them! We stayed at a cheap hotel chain outside Disney, where a branch of Bob Evan's was just over the road. We ate there almost every day, and they used to give us cool-aid in a little plastic mug which we got to take home. I think we even still have some, and I was about 4 at the time! So yes, cool-aid is on the list!

You remembered my froot loop addiction! :goodvibes

Pop Tarts are a must buy! Do you know we only have 2 flavours in the UK? Chocolate and Strawberry? Just looking at the 30 kinds on the Walmart website makes me hungry! :thumbsup2

I have to admit we have Nutri-grain here, and I don't like them. I used to love them, then I ate one almost every day for a year and now I am a bit sick inside when I see them! :sad2: I remember trying some Quaker Oat cereal bars about 3 years ago, and them being nice... if I can remember the flavour I liked!

Those of you in the UK are so deprived. :confused3

We really are! :sad1:

I don't recall seeing Dr. or Diet Dr. Pepper when I was in Ireland---but, my trip was in '01.

Pretzel M&Ms and Coconut M&Ms are a couple of my latest naughty diet cheats.

Yes I remembered your Froot Loop addiction. :rotfl2: For awhile here they were selling Froot Loop straws but I haven't seen them in awhile. Guess they did not go over too well. Kind of like selling a bowl of cereal with a small milk and a spoon in the dairy section didn't last long.

The way you feel about nutri-grain bars is how I felt about chicken after coming back from Europe in 1999. I was with a group and they had it set up that they paid the restaurant and told them to feed us whatever they felt was best. Well most of them thought us being American's and all that chicken would go over well. :rotfl: We had it for both lunch and dinner on some days. :scared1: So when we got back home after two weeks of it none of us wanted chicken for a long long time.

Mountain Dew is good- has lots of caffeine and sugar though compared to other soft drinks. Mountain Dew Red is also good. They have two limited edition flavors out currently. Have not tried these so I am not sure how they taste.

Wow! Only two flavors of Pop Tarts. I guess they don't like to give you guys too much variety over there. :confused3

I haven't had Kool-aid in years except for the already bottled stuff. My mom use to make it often when I was a kid though. Esp. in the summer. It is good frozen into pop sicles as well. We also use to drink Tang. Tastes like an orange juice. They still make it if you want to give it a try.

Note: Kool-aid is sold in four ways. One is in paper packs that do not contain sugar (easiest to fly home with to make it in bulk) you have to add your own which makes this the cheapest way to buy it. Another is in single serve packs that you add to a water bottle. (Best for use at Disney) And last is in a plastic container that has the sugar already mixed in you just have to add water. Oh and it is also sold in a 6 pack of ready to drink plastic bottles but this has a different taste that comes from the plastic bottle. We like the grape and cherry of these best. Cherry is hard to find though. Haven't found it around here in quite some time. So our next choice is than the tropical punch. Almost forgot it is also sold in pouches that come 12 single serve to a box. Capri Sun is another fruit flavored drink that is also sold this way and is pretty good as well.

Love getting Mountain Dew, although oddly I found some in Doncaster Airport last week!
I also love Combos! Oh and will get some poptarts too, we get them here but only strawberry and chocolate, I want some of the more exotic ones :lmao:

:goodvibes

Kim you will want to stay away from the cheese combos. I believe they do come in peanut-butter as well if I remember correctly. I do not like these so I am not sure if they still make them in this flavor or not.

Who knew that Pop Tart flavors would be considered exotic to someone. :cutie: I do not like the chocolate and I am not a big fan of strawberry so I would be looking for other flavors as well if I knew they were out there.

Wow this has really got me thinking now, only a couple of months to our next trip and we have discussed this and thought of a few more;

I have never made my mind up whether I like them but *always* buy some Kisses
Animal Crackers (the kids love these)
Cheez-its I think they are called
My wife just shouted pink lemonade :confused3 lemonade here is completely different

Don't feel too sorry for us though, we normally have some equivalents over here but just not the same somehow...

Yeah when I was in Europe in 99 they had Fanta Orange soda. Never had heard of it before that trip. I wasn't sure that I liked it all that well but on a hot day it was nice and refreshing. Wouldn't you know a few years later they brought it over to the states and it has a different taste to it here. Now I actually crave the taste that you have in Europe over what we have here. I prefer the other orange soda brands we have over the Fanta they sell here.

I also miss the apple and orange juice you have over there. Too bad you can't bring fruit products back with you. I never liked orange juice here but over there I loved the stuff. It tasted so much better. I think it is the process it goes through here to preserve it that changes the taste.

Lemonade is the main reason I get refillable mugs at Disney! I love the minute maid stuff!!

Our lemonade is fizzy- like soda, where as the stuff you get in America is still and delicious! We have 'old fashioned still lemonade' and lemon squash, but they just aren't the same!

Wild grape pop tarts. (As good as the original grape ones from when we were kids) :goodvibes Love them! Although my kids love the cinnamon roll. (You see how often I cook a good breakfast. :ssst: )

You want to have snacks for into the parks and during the day...
Not for breakfast or whatever do i understand correct??

I will give you my list of things based on snacks that you don't have to keep cool all the time.

** Water.
** Ocean Spray mix -> 10 packets in a box, mix with a bottle of water and you have a flavoured drink.
** BBQ Chips.
** Crackers.
** Lunchable -> i love love love Lunchables but there is cheese in it.
It are boxes with crackers, meat and cheese (maybe there is also a taste without cheese) and all the ingredients are seperate packed in the box, so the cheese doesn't touch the other food.
** Cookies from the bakery
** Oreo's snackpack -> then they are packed with 2 cookies in a pack
** Fruit

** Zip Lock Snack bags -> easy for putting the food into without spreading the food in you bag. Now you can buy big bags of chips and a big carton of crackers and take each day a bit with you.
** Baby wipes

Sunkist a soda company here in the states just started selling carbonated- like soda lemonade in my area. It is a nice change from the usual lemonade.

Now plain water I do not like carbonated at all. Had it for the first and last time in Europe. LOL

The best lemonade I ever had is the fresh made stuff in Magic Kingdom. Try some if you come across it. It is fresh squeezed and the best lemonade.
