What all do you pack for a water excursion in port?

If you are going to be getting in the water, what all do you pack to take with you off the boat? And what kind of bag do you usually carry with you? I have a KYSS locking bag, but don't know if that would be the easiest to tote around during excursions. A backpack would be easiest, but will it fit everything? I am assuming we need a change of clothes and somewhere to put wet swimsuits. Or do we not? Sunscreen and our room keys, obviously. Do we have a shower after the dolphin excursion? Turtle farm?

On our last cruise, we did Dunns River Falls/dolphin encounter in Jamaica and the island tour with turtle farm in Grand Caymans. We had each child carry a cinch sack with water bottle, sunglasses, and clothing change. We had them pack light weight athletic shorts and tank top so it was rolled easily and took very little space(plus dried quickly if put on over damp suits.) My husband carried a larger backpack with towels from the ship and his own items. I had a cinch sack with our camera and money in a waterproof bag that we use when boating. At the dolphin encounter, they had lockers to secure your bags and we then took out our towels and put everyone's bags into the larger pack and it fit in one locker. For the turtle far, you only go in up to your knees, so no need to change if you wear shirts.

When we did the baths I carried my regular backpack. It had sunscreen, room keys/drivers license, a SMALL amount of cash (maybe $50 for tips and a snack), water bottles, a small snack, a small camera and our towels.

I wore a light sundress as a cover-up that I put in there while swimming. We didn't change clothes, just returned in our suits.
Didn't carry any electronics.

For Megan's bay it was the whole family, so I had my big tote bag. Still same contents--towels, sunscreen, enough money for lunch and a tip, water bottles.

I've never worried about locking my bag to anything. There generally isn't anything in there valuable enough to steal.
(We are regular beach goers here, and I've never had problems at beaches or the pools.)

I usually take a small travel backpack with me when I do port adventures or wandering out in town. Typically my port adventures is scuba diving and I take my own mask, dive computer, dive log book, snorkel, towel, and underwater camera.

Do you dive through the shore excursions or on your own? We are looking at the cruise to Cozumel, Grand Caymen, and Jamaica later this year.

I've done both but I prefer to book my dives through the ship for safety reasons. I know that DCL checks out the dive company plus I've noticed that the prices are really not that different when I book on my own. I also like the assurance if my ship booked dive excursion is late the cruise ship will wait for us.
