What age limit would you use a stroller?

my DD will be 7 almost 8 for her first visit and me and DH usually walk loads in the parks, so although thinking of going at a different pace with DD, don't really want to be having her exhausted or moaning she is tired or having to take a few days break to recover. Was thinking of picking up a cheap stroller from walmart but will she look ridiculous or be too heavy? and will it be just easier to take lot of sit down breaks. It will be our first visit with kids.

My DD is 4 yrs old and she walked everywhere, when you think about it, you really aren't walking that much, you are going from ride to ride or to a show and sitting. So think of it that way. A to B isn't that far and then rest waiting in line or sitting watching a show.

I thought of using a stroller as we had twins of 5, a 6 and 7 year old, but we honestly didn't need it. A midday break is much more useful. The cheap strollers really wouldn't hold the weight of a 7 year old anyway, they are very flimsy! What we did do was hire a double on the two occasions that we were out all day so they could rest if they need to, but is be surprised if you needed one every day!

our nephew was 8 when we took him to WDW and he honestly had no problems at all keeping up with all of us. He was totally shattered at the end of the day but up and at it again first thing the next day. The adults were more worn out and needing the sit down:rotfl:

Hi!

Our two girls are 7 and 9. Our eldest has walked around the parks from the age of 4/5. She loves a good walk and even in the August heat she rarely complains. Our youngest is the opposite, doesn't particularly like walking and complains after no time at all but she wouldn't use a stroller in this country of course......

We have recently moved house and are doing far more walking as a family and although our youngest has improved greatly I am pretty sure that after five minutes in the August heat she will be back to square one. We have talked about it (with her) and decided that we will take the stroller with us, if she wants to use it she can if not it is useful for carrying bags, brollies etc

I really don't worry about what anyone thinks I just want to have the most enjoyable time possible and if that means pushing our youngest in a stroller, that is fine with me :goodvibes Each to their own :goodvibes

Also just to say that you will not be alone or look odd if your 7 year old is in a stroller :goodvibes Perhaps talk to her nearer the time and see what she wants to do....

Ali :goodvibes

I took my 5 year old and he was totally fine :) I would say no plus in a stroller a 7 year old would be to heavy I couldn't imagine pushing my now 6 year old he's a lump lol x

We stoppe at 4 but the next trip there were a few nights he came home sitting on daddies shoulders.

If your child is smaller than average the disney double stroller would be great if they get tired. Our eldest DD was 7 when we first went, but she had just been diagnosed as diabetic a few weeks before we left, so we used a disney stroller the days we stayed out late to see wishes and she napped in the buggy for a while then we would wake her up to see the fireworks (she was the avereage size of a 6 yr old). If your child need one then just get one - who cares what they look like, you never see them again anyway :goodvibes - try out without it but if you need one get one then go for it. I had to live with a very large toddler (youngest DD born over 10lbs and now a 6ft 16 yr old) and many people would stare at this gaint child folding out of her pram :rotfl2:-

Our DD has just turned 5 and she hardly used her stroller in April. We took it when we were going to be in Epcot late around world showcase and that was all - the rest of the time she walked.

I am will do the same again in a couple of weeks and that will be it - no more stroller :woohoo::woohoo:.

We generally don't spend all day in a park - we will have a break of some sort.

Also I wouldn't want to push a child any heavier than DD - she is 18kg and just about 50 percentile for weight and it is hard work. We have a baby jogger city mini and would dream of trying push in anything less substantial.

We took them last year when the girls were 4 and 6 and the eldest rarely used it, we'd take it some days when we expected a long day. The youngest prefers not to use it but in the heat and with all the walking she slept in it quite a lot last year.

This year we're only taking one for the youngest just in case, I'd rather have it and not need it (at least it carries bags for you) than have to carry a heavy 5 year old for any length of time!

Because I'm 6'5" having them on my shoulders is only feasible if we're outside for some time as going in buildings gives them a sore head!

They haven't used pushchairs over here for years but it's different there.

I wouldn't worry about an age limit.

Only you know your daughter best and whether she could cope - it's not just about the walking around, it's the heat that also tires them.

I have DS7 and DS4. I am not talking a stroller out with me but will hire the Disney Double should they need it for any reason.

Hope you have a great time :goodvibes

The only visit we used a stroller was when the boys were 3 and 5 and then it was a single one for the youngest only. TBH it was more of a hindrance than helpful as parking it before a ride/show etc and then having to find it afterwards when the CM's had moved it became a real pain in the rearend :rotfl2: Also negotiating a packed park is obviously more tricky with a stroller than without.

We have an 8, 6, & 3 year old and are bringing two strollers so everyone has a place to sit. Our oldest seems to get the most tired of anyone! :) Plus, it's so great for storing all our stuff. Also nice when crowds are crowded so we can easily keep track of everyone.

My boys never used one after they were 4 but my dd needed one when she was just turned 6. She tires quite easily and doesn't cope very well in the heat so it was easier for everyone that she was in one

I agree, if you've had or are going to have a long day then hire one at the park on the odd occasion.
That's what I intend to do.

We stopped at age 5. I thought my son may have a hard time with it and was prepared to rent one, but as it turned out I did not need to. He was fine. It is a lot of walking, in total, but not continuous walking since you need to stand in lines, sit for meals, etc. Each child is different. I know my niece was still in the stroller at 7 at WDW, but she is lazy, lol. And also very small - at 7 she passed as a 4 year old. And my sister and BIL did not want to here her complain, which she would have. She is 9 now and would still be in the stroller if someone would push her.

Don't worry what anyone else thinks. People may look at you and roll their eyes, but so what. Its not their kid, its not their business.
Ask her what she wants to do. I know my son, now 6 1/2, would not get into a stroller, no matter what. He would rather walk tired than be in a stroller.

We took one for my oldest when she was 7 as she had been in hospital the week before our trip, I'd not intentionally taken one for her on previous Disneyland Paris trips but she did end up using her baby sisters pushchair after being sick during MNSSHP the previous year, so though it better to take her a separate one as by now her sister was too big for a sling.
She only used it a couple of times, MNSSHP and a late night at Epcot but it would have spoiled hers and our nights if she hadn't have had the option. No one batted an eyelid(to be honest would really have cared if they did) as she was by no means the only older child taking using one.
We were lucky as had a spare maclaren pushchair so she wasn't too heavy to push but wouldn't like to have had her in a cheaper one, but you aren't going to be pushing her all day so that's really not much of an issue I suppose. As even a heavy child in a pushchair is easier to move than a miserable tired child at the end of the night.
I think if I hadn't have had the extra buggy I would probably had hired one for the days were were staying late as they are pretty solid and a good size.
This year she has already asked if we are taking her one this holiday, did tell here I think maybe now aged 9 she might be big enough to manage (but would be surprised if she doesn't managed to sneak into her sisters seat at some point)

Our first trip the children were just aged 5 and 8. My daughter had not been in a stroller since she was three. It did not occur to me we might need one. However, by day three we had hired a Disney stroller and she was and is a fit little thing.
We had one a few odd times when she was 6 on long days.

Do what's bet for your child. There are lots of older kids in strollers at Disney.

An earlier poster said really you are not walking much. With all due respect I think that is nonsense. I use a pedometer at Disney and our walking range is 5 to 12 miles a day. That's a lot for 14 consecutive days for a young child.

DD was 6 last trip and we didn't use a buggy - she was absolutely fine.

The cheap strollers you buy at walmart wouldn't be suitable for an older child. Maybe hire a disney one if she is extra tired.

Totally agree. The reason i know we walk more is DH loses weight at Disney even though he eats more:rotfl: Its not just the walking that takes it out of you its the humidity. We bought a stroller for DS6 and he used it a lot.DD was 9 at the time and was really struggling so we got her one too.It made trips from place to place a lot easier and quicker, also when queueing for the Disney transportation( especially after Wishes) its a good place for them to rest.DD was TBH too big and too heavy but the Disney stroller held up fine, and at the end of our holiday we just left them in our room:goodvibes
