One other thing. My youngest DD walked at 8 1/2 months. So should I have not taken a stroleer then if we went?
Had it been up to my Dh, probably not, LOL
Well, maybe he would have made an exception to that...
Seriousley, I do agree that all kids are different. And DH definitely has very high expectations for DD, in other areas besides this. Sometimes I find myself rolling my eyes a little, but OTOH, I do think that she is more capable and mature than some her age, partly because of it. Were it soley up to me, I doubt I could have the willpower to be such a tough enforcer though.
However, I do think that some kids are more capable than adults are willing to give them credit for. I know my parents flipped out last year when we wanted to walk with my niece and nephew (7 and 5 yo) to a park that was about a mile away, they were sure they just couldn't do it and pitched a fit about us taking them. Well we went, and ended up walking almost 3 miles, and the kids were fine - had a great time in fact.
DD is used to hiking with us, so walking is not a problem for her. When we went to WDW last summer she was easily hiking 7-8 miles/day, and that was on rocky, hilly terrain. So the sidewalks at WDW were nothing for her. And we found it much easier to get around without having to worry about a stroller.
But to each their own. I certainley don't have a problem with people using strollers, I just was pointing out that some kids may not need them as much as we may assume.
