What actually can be posted on the CB??

Exactly Dan.. in general posts should be on the most appropriate board. By doing that we "slow down" the CB a little and give people a chance to see more posts of interest. The mods have a lot to do and they aren't going to catch and move every one but it is going to happen.

LMBO, Charlie
...you're just too slick for us :p ;) :teeth:

Even though I'm a known plant murderer and wouldn't think of going to the Flower/Garden board, I do love Spring (particularly after this horrid winter) and the fact that my husband plants beautiful flower and vegetable gardens...it would have been nice to enjoy Dan's thread here, IMHO. The fact that there's a "redirect" doesn't always do a whole lot of good when it falls off the first page of the CB.

I do find these spin-off boards a bit frustrating since they are so DISer specific; other people might find themselves getting involved with and enjoying a topic if posted on the CB that they otherwise wouldn't go looking for. {{{shrugs}}}

Brenda...that's why you're one of my faves! :)

Dan,

I read you post and thought it was fine on the CB. I'm just a bit frustrated that some posts get moved and others don't. I was just on the DVC board and read a post on the DVC asking about free passes for the military. This has nothing to do with DVC.

Disclaimer --- I have nothing against the military. I was a military brat for 21 years. My father and brother retired from the military and I support the military 110%.

Good thing you said that, or no one would buy your CDs. ;)

I always assumed that the flower and garden board was dealing with the flowers and gardens at wdw - especially epcot. I've never actually been on that particular board and probably wouldn't visit it now.

Doesn't this thread belong on the Technical support forum?

I've had a couple posts moved and a couple deleted that I thought didn't deserve to be deleted. I especially hate when a post gets deleted without any explanation. My tendency is to keep posting the same post until it either gets left alone or I get an explanation as to why it's not appropriate. but then again I like my post count and wouldn't want to have to start over with a new user name.

All I know is WillyJ threatens to take our Nyquil away if we put words that will be censored out with astericks.:teeth:

Dan, Beauty....and anybody else who is upset that threads get moved:

I'm sorry it upsets you, really. If, in fact, it really does. I don't guess Dan sounded too upset, just curious.

I just post stuff here, and if it gets moved, I move on. No sense gettin' my socks knotted up over something like that. Lots of more important things going on in life to spend my worry time on.

Just my 2 cents.

And Beauty...I miss the ole board, too! All we can do is try and keep it going, keep it fun, and remember the smiles - we still get those! (maybe not as often as we used to with the corn-eatin' emu-leg chowin' folks that used to be here).

I mean, you guys really all helped me out a LOT when I was getting prepared for surgery two weeks ago - I can't think of better online pals than the DIS! If it wasn't for the DIS, I'd have probably only lived on Jello. Thanks to all the wonderful suggestions, I had smooties, custard, and so much more!

Love you guys! {{{{{{Group Hug}}}}}}

So, if I understand correctly, there is a very distinctly different posting guideline, from what is used to be? Or at least what it was from what I recall the guideline was when I helped moderate the CB?

If, as I asked above and confirmed by you, Alex......
threads that topically would not be off topic on another DIS board do not belong on the CB, but rather on the board where it would be topically okay??
.....the CB is actually now quite topic specific today, essentially any topic, not otherwise covered by another DIS board??? Do you have any timeframe as to when this, as you said, "is going to happen"?

I do treasure the DIS and CB, greatly, and have always tried to follow the various guidelines, even helping to 'police' it for a few years along the way. It is sad to see the days of the old non-topic-specific CB going by the wayside and from now on having to adhere to specific topical guidelines, but such it is.

I took the "is going to happen" to mean the moving of a thread that isn't supposed to be on the CB is going to happen. (If it is caught)
I guess we all could help them out by clicking the "report this thread to a moderator" button as they can't be everywhere and read everything.;) No, really, sounds like it might be needed.

Pebblszzz, I agree with you about posting. If it stays, it stays. If it goes, it goes. No skin off my nose. I guess I don't post here enough to really care. I enjoy the DIS but I don't live here. But I took the question differently. Not as being curious but more as someone who got their feelings hurt and wants to cause a little trouble. Oh well....... now I've probably stepped on a few toes. But then that's how we all look at things differently.

Dan... there is nothing new here.
It has been the policy for a long, long time to move posts to a more appropriate board. As you are aware we have moderator logs and I can safely tell you that posts get moved to other boards from the community board every single day.
Most of the people seem to follow Pebblszzz advice as we almost never get a complaint about it. What we do get complaints about is the community board moving too fast and people feeling lost and like they can't "keep up".
When I said it "is going to happen" I was referring to the fact that people's posts are going to be moved from time to time, not that anything new was going on.

(oops should have read buckalew's post before I posted..yup you got it right :)

Hmm...I didn't read it that way at all. Maybe it is just that I know Dan loves this place quite a bit. I can't imagine him wanting to cause trouble on a board that he cares so much about.
BTW, ouch!

Kirby if you knew Dan at all you would know there is no way he would ever want to cause trouble. He is one of the nicest most sincere men I have ever had the pleasure of meeting. He is 100% genuine in person and online.

Now me, I get mad and at times say things I shouldn't because I am bad about wearing my emotions on my sleeve. If I get mad I usually can't keep it inside when most of the time I would do better to just SHUT UP! :)

What's the big deal about a thread being moved? It's happened to several of us. If the mods or WM deem a thread of mine to be moved to another board, I am not offended whatsoever that they move it.

Oh sure...wait 'til they start up a FLUFF board, Lu.;)

Well, that is new, at least from March of '01, when I resigned as a moderator here. I know for a fact that back then, it was rare that a thread ever got moved (still feel that is true). If they did, in the rare instance, it was moved to the DB if clearly deteriorating into an out and out argument, or if clearly out of control, deleted. I know there is no longer a clear, stated defintion, anywhere that I am aware of, as to what can safely be posted on the CB, but do know that the topic specific CB is new, sometime after March, '01. And I do read many posts here, (most, as I said, I like this place) and still today, rarely see a moved indicator, but do see hundreds of threads that topically could be safely posted on other boards here on the DIS.

Shannon, well, I think it would depend. If I ask a theme park question here I want the people here on the CB's thoughts and not the them park boards thoughts or I would ask it there. There are times when I want to know what the people on this particular boards thoughts are on a specific topic.
So, maybe if Dan was wanting to know how people here's gardening/planting was going, that would be why he asked here.
JMHO, of course.

You are right, I don't know Dan and don't have any reason to put him down, which I wasn't. I was just stating my opinion on how I read both threads. I even responded to the original one on how my gardening is going this year. It's just that the Dan I saw on these two threads is not the one I usually see. I read it as someone who was not happy and that's the way I feel. Oh, well, I think I'll call it a night.....
