What about placeholder perks from cancelled sailings?

Should I even bother asking whether they will extend the placeholder? Or give the 10% discount on whatever cruise we move to? Just be grateful for what we have? It is what it is, but I wondered what other people are thinking/hearing about this?

If you booked your now cancelled cruise with a placeholder, can you move that placeholder along with your credit?

If you cancel you will lose future OBB perks. If you change dates the perks should follow. The OBB perks are linked to your reservation #. If you don't want that # cancelled, I'd call DCL or your TA and ask to have it changed to another date.

Earlier reports were that the OBB would extend to your new cruise date if you took the credit. Don’t cancel or it will be lost.

Okay, thanks. I was supposed to be on the Mar 14 sailing and didn't cancel. Of course, in my case, this was the end of my 2 year limit. I will check, though. It would be nice to have that added on.

We sailed 2/23/19 to 3/2/19.

Booked 3/14/20 to 3/21/20 while on board, specifically booked it on 2/24/19.

Rebooked to 2/27/21 to 3/6/21 with our TA on 3/11/20, and received the 10% OBB benefit. Not sure about the OBC. I would've assumed our 10% OBB expired on 2/24/21, but we were able to use it for a sailing leaving 3 days later.

Not sure if that helps, but it's one data point.

Thanks. Mine would be a year longer... worth asking, but not expecting miracles, either. We booked our placeholder on 03/17/18, so it was up as of this sailing.

if I opt in for the cruise credit being offered to cruise under the new policy, my TA said I can’t use a placeholder on my new cruise and use the cruise credit. My cruise is not canceled yet. Just offered a cruise credit if I want to move it. My cruise date is April 18th. I’ll be watching to see if this changes. The cruise I would be moving does not have a placeholder. I wanted to use a new placeholder along with the full credit offered towards a new cruise date but told dcl won’t allow it. So that’s the difference.

We are suppose to sail May 11th, my OBB expires May 13 2020.
I will push this cruise until our scheduled July 2021, but thinking about having to call to do this is scary with the wait time.
So I am waiting as along as possible.

Great question. I just assumed that if you rescheduled your discount and obc would transfer. Sounds like it will, I'm glad to hear that. I have both on my upcoming cruise. We already have July 2021 booked. I guess our 10% and obc and our entire payment would transfer to that sailing. Makes sense.

This would result in an overpayment on our next cruise. Anyone know if the overpayment would be obc applied to that cruise, or would they refund the overage? Either way works. We would really live it up on that cruise. Spa day and bingo for everyone!

Another question... is what is being offered based on per person or stateroom/reservation? If we have one family member that can't go, can we just roll his credit into our fare or does he get a refund and the rest of us can use our credit as we see fit?

Good question; I never thought of that.

I don’t believe you can transfer the credit to an existing reservation. If your cruise is canceled, you do have the option of a 100% refund, which you could then put towards your existing cruise. However, the OBB benefits from the canceled/refunded cruise would not transfer.

I believe it is per reservation, not per guest. The full credit would roll to the new cruise date to be used by whomever goes at that time.

I already asked if I could use the credit to pay towards a future cruise and was told no. I was told it can only be used on a new cruise. This was from my TA dreams unlimited. I have 3 future cruises booked within the 15 month window. I’m hoping for a refund as I can’t squeeze another cruise in.

Were you booking any of the new sailings under a placeholder? In other words, does the new booking have to be a brand new reservation #, or an existing placeholder reservation # can be used?

my DU TA said the booking to use the credit had to be a new booking. I asked if I could use a placeholder with it and she said no because a placeholder is considered a booking (old) because it already has a reservation number . 🤷‍♀️

So that would be a "no" even if yours was a placeholder booking, I assume. That sucks, but then, the extra funds would offset it.

Does anyone know if they are hard and fast to the day for the 15 months? For example, 15 months from March 14 is June 14, but our school is in session until the end of June. That's too late, right?

The calculus for those already booked with an OBB offer on a future sailing:

25% extra funds - 10% OBB discount - $200 OBB credit maybe +- Change in the price since the original booking

This doesn't take into account the relative sizes of the two payments. 10% off a larger amount may still come out more than 25% of a smaller.

I'm going to say Yes. They're pretty firm about booking an onboard booking within a 24 month window.. I'd think they'd be pretty firm about any other time limitation set up on future cruises.

I could be wrong.

So can somebody summarise? You have to choose, either OBB or cancelling discounts? (We have a Norway cruise booked with OBB (OBB from EBTA, so not valid for Europe 2021), I suspect the Magic won't come to Europe at all this summer (although there is a slight chance because of the dry dock)) So if they cancel all European cruises, we COULD use our OBB later in 2021 (is will extend?) but we'd have to choose between that or the 25%?
