Isn't the Disney Club Card the same thing as the old Magic Kingdom Card?

When and why did they change this card? The Magic Kingdom Card use to be FREE,
but now they charge 39.95 ( or the special 29.95 discount for "special" customers).
Why should I dish out the 29.95? Is this card any better then the old magic Kingdom Card?
Are there EXTRA's offered now that make the 29.95 worth it? Please convince me that is it worth getting the Disney Club Card.

Sure, we got a "free" MKC card through an employer, but other folks still had to pay for them if they didn't have a company that offered them. I just booked to rooms at the All Stars yesterday for $59 each using my DC card. There are no other discounts available at that time as of yet. You do get a small amount (ABOUT 5%, I think) off of park passes. There are a few other perks. I do wish they'd bring back the days of free kid's meals or desserts, though. (That was not with the MKC card, however--they've only done that with DC, I believe.)

Well, I just got $80 off my penscola, florida, car rental with DC discounts.

Saved 20% off my order at our local cihinese restaurant here in town.

Bought an park ticket with 5% discount.

I just bought AAA membership and could have gotten $25 off the first year with the DC card, but I didn't know about that discount at the time.

Sometimes, only DC or AAA resorts discounts are the only discounts available during certain times of the year.

Disney Club replaced Magic Kingdom Club over two years ago. The perks have not changed dramatically, but for me it has more than paid for itself.

I just saved over $100 on my car rental from National.

Received 5% discount on park passes for the family.

Will be receiving 20% discount at DisneyQuest in Walt Disney World.

Save 10% on each purchase made at the Disney Store (and I do shop there quite a bit).

Got entertainment rate at hotels for other family trips.

When I add it up, the $29 annual fee as more than covered itself. You will have to review the benefits and decide if it is worth it to you :)

I wasn't sure whether or not it would be worth it to me, however when I got a $50 shipboard credit on my cruise I knew for sure it was!

Bell5- is the the 77.00 value season -20% which is 61.60 +tax or did you get a better rate?

Where are the Disney Club discounts listed? I have looked but can't find them. I wanted to stay at one of the All-Stars From 8/24-8/31. Thank you.

presleyg,
It probably is the $61.60 you mentioned since it's about $69 with tax. I was guessing it to be the $59 rate that someone else had mentioned. If I sat and figured out the math--it probably would be what you say.

If you shop at the Disney Store alot, like I do, you receive 10% off all purchases. I really like that park.

I've also:
-used the 5% off park tickets
-booked hotel under DC discount
-found the cheapest car rental with National b/c of DC membership
-booked hotel in another vacation destination using DC Entertainment discount
-used the discount at a few restaurants in DTD

The bottom line of whether or not a DC is a good buy for you is how you are going to use it. Many folks invest the $30 and save $100's on one trip on Disney resorts or cruises, admission passes, car rentals, meals, shopping, etc. Others wouldn't have any use for many of the benefits and to them it wouldn't be worth it.

Is it a ripoff? No way. No one forces you to purchase it. Like anything, you have to do the research to determine whether it will be advantageous to your own situation. If it is, then buy it. Otherwise, don't.

Okay! Okay!

I will most likely be signing up for the club and trying it out. Thanks for all your info and input.

Correct me if Im wrong, but are you saying you get the entertainment rate at hotels with the DC card? If that's the case, then my SIL wont need to purchase an Entertainment book for the Hard ROck, she'll just need to get the DC card.....thanks for clarifying someone :) Mae

No, to get the Entertainment discount at Hard Rock Hotel in Orlando you must get the Entertainment Book. There are several hotels in Orlando that will not honour the Disney Card as an Entertainment one. Some say all hotels. Some posts on here say they have managed to phone about and get some hotel discounts with only the Disney Card. I don't know the above info personally, but I have read posts about this here.

hercamore (or anyone else)

How did you (or anyone else) save at a restaurant close to their home with the DC? I thought the dining benefits were only at Disney?

Thanks!

chris1gill, I

In the front of our local entertainment book are local restaurants that give a discount by showing a entertainment card. This card is usually found attached to the front cover of the book. Most local places that accept the EC will accept a DC with the entertainment logo on it.

Universal resorts (including Hard Rock Hotel) will only accept an EC for discount. The Dolphin & Swan at WDW will accept a DC card for the Entertainment discount. At least that was the way it was when we went last summer.

To use the DC Entertainment logo, you go to the DC web site ,on the left, near the bottom, click Entertainment, click restaurants,Then fill in your city and it will show you all the restaurants in your area that take the DC Entertainment logo. The discount is a straight 20% off the bill.
