Our last couple of Orlando vacations have been strictly to WDW and have been in December. This December we plan to go to US as well, not having "been" for a number of years.

What are the water/flume rides like in the cooler (sometimes cold) weather? What are your strategies to keep dry? I haven't yet recovered from practically drowning in the Kali Rapids on our last December trip...sodden denim jeans in mid-forties temperatures are not comfortable!

The water rides run in December. Popeye this year closed in Janauary for refurbishment. December weather can be unusual. It can be cold one day and warm the other. You may find a good day to hit the water rides. Colder days generally give shorter lines to these rides (wonder why? :) ).

A change of clothes is mandatory. We were there in relatively warm but not hot weather in November. You will get soaked on the IOA water rides. Do not attempt to stay dry, accept that you will get soaked and prepare accordingly.

Prior to your trip, go to your local dollar store and stock up on rain ponchos. My store carries them in packs of 2 for a dollar. These will keep you relatively dry on Dudley and JPRA. We took ponchos and plastic garbage bags with us on Popeye one January. Ponchos went on top and we pulled the garbage bags over our legs and bottoms. We looked like total dorks, but it worked. But if you don't have something to keep your bottom half dry on Popeye, it won't do any good to cover your top half because you will get wet from the bottom up. I find this ride to be much wetter than Kali. The best thing to do is hope for warmer weather, and save the wet rides for a time just before you are going back to the room. Then you will just have to be wet for a little while.

Good luck!

We had the ponchos for Popeye - what a waste. Should have used it for my wallet - everything was still wet the next day! I say stick with a change of clothes. The water rides are reasonably close together, can be done in consecutive order and then you can change. Recommended order would be jpra, dudley and then popeye.

I would suggest bringing a change of clothing to the park, stashing it in a locker at the front of the park ($6/day) and changing into dry clothing afterwards. My dh did wear a poncho on the Bilge ride once and said it kept him from getting totally drenched (but he was still wet!)

We do the change of clothes. We bring a bag with shorts, tee shirts, flip flops, and a BIG beach towel. We change and put our warmer clothes in those lockers between Bluto's and Dudleys. After we ride all three water rides a few times, we use the bathrooms near Bluto's to dry and change. We did this in February on a day that didn't go above 65 and we still enjoyed it (but it was 25 back home that day ;) ).
