Has anyone flown Westjet to Orlando? I haven't heard anything but good re this airline and was just curious. Does one pack their own lunch or is this still provided?
Thanks.

Haven't used them for Florida-but generally, they are really nice to fly with. Every destination I have used them for has been a "bring your own" type of food service. The flight to Orlando is about 2-1/2 hours and the price is right!
Wish they had started the service sooner.

Jetsgo? So if they have mechanical problems you will get stuck like Tigger2on did?

Any body know?

Westjet hasn't started their flights in to the US yet, they're just taking reservations for them.

They are one of the best airlines to work with. They really respect the customer, and will work with you to work out problems.

Having said that, their US flights are pretty sparsley spaced at the moment, and by that I mean that they don't have multiple flights a day to Orlando. One of the big carriers (the Sick Six as we call them) will have many flights during the day, so if there's a mechanical problem then you can be accommodated on another flight. When the airline only has one flight each day then that's a little more difficult to do. So yes, the possibility does exist that you could be stuck in an airport for while if there's a problem with the aircraft.

However I can't see Westjet staff not being pro-active and taking care of the customers, unlike Jetsgo.

Other differences between the two:
- Coffee and soft drinks are complimentary on Westjet flights, as are the little packages of cookies (or pretzels).
- You cannot pre-select your seat on Westjet, all seats are assigned at the airport upon arrival. So if you're very particular about where you sit, either book another airline or arrive at the airport early (like I usually do) to assure you get something close to your seat preference.
- I find the flight crew, and the airport staff, to be much nicer on Westjet.
- Oh, and if you can manage to fly with just carryon luggage then you can use the self-checkin kiosks for Westjet. Jetsgo doesn't have those.

We'll be flying Westjet to Orlando on Oct 11. I hope and pray that we won't be stuck at the airport due to mechanical problems!!

We have only flown Westjet between Calgary and Vancouver. I think we've flown about five times now. Each and every flight has been a great experience. We know a couple of Westjet pilots, and they have told us what a great company Westjet is, not only as an employer, but in general. We booked a seat sale for six of us to travel from Calgary to Orlando on October 17th. We feel extremely confident about Westjet, and if there are problems, they will be taken care of quickly and efficiently. I just hope their US destination planes have the video screens installed in the headrests of the new leather seats by the time we go (they told me that this should be done by then).

That sounds assuring!

Are they flying into MCO or Sanford?

Is this service starting in Sep/Oct? or am I thinking about NWA out of Cambridge?

I would never wish our first JestGo experience on anyone as it was he**! But I have had friends who have flown all over the western part of Canada and are very happy with WESTJET's service.

tigger2on - I love you "bundle" countdown timer - too cute!! My best friend just had a little girl and named her Riley - different spelling but a lovely name.

I have only flown with WestJet once and that was this year. It was a short flight, Toronto to Ottawa. I had no complaints, comfortable leg room, smooth flight and GREAT attendants. When I say great, I mean they were brilliant!!!
We were on a flight to Ottawa for Game 6 between the Sens and Leafs and one of the attendants came on the PA and was just making wise cracks about the Leafs.:teeth:
It was great, the Leaf fans didnt seem amused, but I was having a good laugh :p
And before any Leaf fans respond, yes the Sens lost the series but the Leafs were soon hot behind them on the greens ::yes::

when I went in May I flew out of Detroit and took Spirit Airlines.
Had no complaints. They didn't serve a meal onboard, but it's only a two and a half hour flight. Even with taking Robert Q airbus from London, it was still cheaper than flying out of Toronto. The only complaint I had was the Detroit airport wasn't that great. And if you are waiting around for your flight to leave it's kind of boring. My DGD was getting very antsy.

p.s. how do you get those countdown clocks at the bottom of your posts:confused:

One other nice thing about West Jet...instead of purchasing cancellation insurance, if for some reason you have to cancel, they keep $25 per ticket, and the rest is kept as a credit so you can book another flight within 12 months. I really like this feature, because we run a couple of business, which makes it difficult to plan exact holiday dates.

Are they just out of Toronto? I know that they were out of Hamilton but I think they are pulling out of there..

I think I will still go out of Buffalo tho, just cause of the taxes!

but they need to release their dates!!

mousy_in_canada,

By the looks of their website, they also fly out of Ottawa, to Orlando. My Canadian geography is pretty rusty, so I don't know if that location is anywhere near you. I think they start flying to Orlando on October 9th.:sunny: :sunny:

we are planning on flying out of Buffalo on Southwest - the price is just too good! Even with Westjet sales and the fact that we will spend a night in a hotel in Buffalo we are still paying about half of what we would pay on Westjet! I am a little worried about driving to Buf in the winter, but am hopeful that by giving our selves a day, even if it is a blizzard, we can inch on down the road and make it for our flight to the sun.....can you tell I can't wait?!? lol

Unless something miraculous happens and Westjet flights go way down I think this is the best way to go for those within a reasonable drive to Buffalo (I figure ours will be around 1 1/2 hrs).
