I stayed there for a week in October of 1999 with my two brothers and their families. I will never go back even if it is free. Took almost 3 hours to check in and it wasn't all that busy. Check in people spoke very poor English. There was a separate check in desk for owners and "everyone else". Since one of my brothers had exchanged another timeshare for these accomodations, we were lumped into the "everyone else" category. Westgate said they never got the reservation, but they suddenly "found" it when my brother produced confirmations and said he'd be glad to call the exchange company (on their dime). To this day, I cannot understand why it took so long to check in - I think it was because there front desk personnel were never trained and had a hard time understanding English language. Not sure where/what country they were from. They must have improved since then since I think they'd be out of business by now if they haven't, but I'm not forgiving them for the way we were treated.
My brother did end up attending the timeshare sales presentation which was cleverly disguised as a "unit maintenance check" over a free breakfast. My brother knew what was going on, so he put it off until the very end of our stay. My SIL did not go to the breakfast, but he took his young son with him (on purpose). Told the salesman that no one told him they both had to go. Brother left after about 30 minutes. Apparently, the salesman didn't appreciate my nephew's stinky diaper. Brother said he "forgot" the diaper bag, but I'm quite sure it was done on purpose. Since we paid via exchange, there wasn't any "pay full rate" threat hanging over our heads.
Anyway, I was not all that impressed with the units or the maintenance in general. Check in experience really soured me on the place. (We had a good time at WDW in spite of it, though, LOL).Maybe things have improved. I hope so and also hope everything works out for you.
P.S. Don't let them talk you into putting your kids into their childcare during the presentation. Have read horror stories where they refused to give people their kids until after the end of the meeting(s) even if you wanted to leave after the advertised 90 minutes.
