Any comments/opinions/concerns about either property? We're hoping to trade our week through II for a place and they have 3 BR openings for the week we need right now. How do they compare to one of the Marriotts (Grand Vista???)

TIA

We stayed in the 3 bedroom at Cypress Point Resort 2 years ago and LOVED IT!! Very very nice...I was afraid it wouldnt be as represented on the web but it was and better. Very clean, unit was recently refurbished. It was great. We were right across from the volcano pool...I could sit in my screened in balcony and see DH & DK swimming. We'd love to go back. Sorry I can't comment on the other property...but this place is tops:thumbsup2

I haven't stayed in the units at WG Town Center - but we have toured them - they are just like every other mid-rise WG resort (WG Lakes as an example). rather plain, cookie cutter and not particularly appealing. Hard to find nearby parking, the sales pressure can be incredible and you must drive to everything you care to do - often even within the resort itself.

Cypress Pointe is a small resort, the original section is only 3 stories- even the second phase has only a maximum of 5 story buildings - has the "old Florida" feel, is within a planned community for easy access to restaurants, shops, even Disney within a short walk. No comparison IMO to the far too remote and spread out WG developments. We would choose CP over WG every time if they both were available.

Haven't stayed in the CP 3 bedrooms, but have stayed in a 2 bedroom. My aunt got me a getaway week last summer. We had stayed in other places off of 192, but it was so close. It was easy to get to the parks and Wal-Mart. My friend was in Pop the same week. We drove to the parks faster than she could get there on the buses.

DH liked it so much that he insisted we book back into CP again for this summer.

thank you so much for your opinions! We're still tossing around those two (more interested in CP now, thanks to the reviews), hoping a Marriott one will open up to have that one to choose from too.

If you'll be visiting the Mouse everyday, then I'd choose Cypress Pointe over MGV. It's a nice place and it's so much closer - no problem to return for a midday nap or swim.

If you'll be visiting other area attractions some days or spending off days at the resort or golfing some days, then I could see "holding out" for M Grand Vista. HTH. :)

Good points! We do plan on going to the parks everyday...........hmmmmmm. More to think about

to me it is better than the Marriott - you can actually walk to a couple of nice restuarants, grocery store (winnie-dixie) and drug store (walgreens).

you only need your car for going to WDW.

it is less than a mile from Disney's SSR. Very close to DTD hotels.

now should say as far as convenience - the place isn't as nice as a Marriott or Hilton - but hey it is nice for it is!!!

the old part - Cypress Pointe (not the Grand Villa) do Not have an elevator - so walking those steps at night can be problem.

is the quickest way to all the parks using Hotel Plaza Blvd (from Cypress Pointe)? Or are there different routes for different parks?

just depends sometimes I4 is quick or 535 to 536.

that is what nice about CP - there are different routes. (of course the same can be say for Sheraton Vistana Resort and Bryan's Spanish Cove and Grand Beach also.

ok... I know how to get on I-4 ... that's right there at the entrance to DtD, at the Chevron station, right?

535 to 536. It seems like I should know how to do this. We stayed at Vistana Villages in October. Is 535 or 536 over near there?

535 is Apopka-Vineland road

536 is World center drive, then world center parkway, then once on disney - Epcot Center drive

here a map
http://map.mapnetwork.com/destination/orlando/consumer/disney/

the map doesn't show Cypress pointe - but it is across the street from Westgate blue tree - which is shown.

I cannot believe how incredibly stupid I feel

I'm going to turn left onto 535 - past Goodings Plaza, the road where you turn to go to the outlets, Publix, Mary Queen of the Universe, etc, past Chik Fil A on the right, etc.

Where do I pick up 536? Is there an intersection at 535 & 536 that the map isn't too clear about?

Never mind, I found another map, LOL. Taking 535 down to 536 is faster for all of the parks? Or just Epcot?

completely depends upon traffic.

if I4 is back up - then take 536.

lately the lights along E buena Vista drive - are just too long! (Hotel Plaza Blvd)

:thumbsup2

We'll be there June 12-23 of this year. Our last trip was in 2005. They are doing some painting on the building exteriors and building a new recreational area but neither of these are expected to impact your enjoyment of the resort. Everyone is right, this resort is VERY close to WDW and supermarkets. There are a total of 3 swimming pools that visitors can use. The volcano waterslide pool at Cypress Pointe and two pools at the adjacent Cypress Pointe Grand Villas.

we noticed that in October - a quick trip to grab something to eat turned into much longer than we anticipated!

we were seriously spoiled by how quick & easy the drive is from Vistana Villages, LOL.

what kind of travel times should I plan on?

Using the Ultimate Guide's tips for driving worked well.
Use I-4 for Magic Kingdom and Epcot.
Using 192 puts you in the "closer" parking lot for AK and HS.
For us, once we got in the car it only went over 10 minutes for Magic Kingdom. It was about 12 minutes of driving time.
I think the UG was right about not using Hotel Plaza Blvd. most of the time simply because of traffic.
