Curacao

I woke up about 5:50am and from our balcony you could see the lights of Curacao. As the sun rose I started to take pictures. (well, after the digital camera de-fogged..lol, thank goodness for the instant camera). Entering the port at Curacao was quite a site. Simply charming is how I would describe it, all the colors, brightly painted buildings. Just like a postcard. After a quick shower we headed up to deck 10 to take more pictures. Our excursion was meeting at 8:10am in the promenade lounge so we had to grab a quick bite to eat and get going.

The excursion was very well organized, they even had towels available to us, as it was a very rainy day. As we left the ship there were dancers in traditional dress performing at the dock. We made our way to the ac's busses which were waiting for us. Our first top was the Hato Caves. They were very nice, had many bats. You can only take photos in one spot and the humidity in the caves was about 90%. Unbelievable. All the caves I have ever been in have been cool (temperature wise), these were roasting. After that it was on to the Curacao museum. It had some very nice paintings and antique furniture. Our tour guide played the Calien (spelling). A large intrument with keys and pedals attached to the bells on the roof of the museum. That was great. While driving from place to place our tour guide described the sites, economy, history, politics, religion and education of the people of Curacao. Seems to be a very peaceful place. Our last stop on the tour was Little Negrita, a sailing schooner turned bar and gift shop. You could also taste the famous Blue Curacao liqour there. The orange flavored liquor comes in 5 colors, clear, re, green, blue and orange..although they all taste the same, the colors are to help make your parties more exciting. We made some purchases of course and then headed back to ship to drop off the heavy bags before we do any further exploring on our own.

We freshened up and headed out to Punda for some lunch and shopping. while we were waiting at the ontoon bridge we ran into our tablemates, so we walked together. Quick stop at post office was the easy part. Curacao is a very dirty town, not many restaurant options. We ended up at Time Out (which is housed in the old Hard Rock Cafe building). The guys had burgers, us Gals had the Chiken pitas. The food was good, service was terrible. Our tablemates had to hurry back to ship for bridge tour, hubby and I worked our way back, making only two stops along the way. We found a teapot and we stopped to have a beer at the little bar across from port. I had the amstel bright (yes bright, not lite), with lime. It is quite good, very refreshing. The bartender changed my amercian dollar for guilder and we headed back to ship. We relaxed on our balcony, in total amazement. The people of Curacao were lining the dock/coast area for as far as we could see. Captain mickey was out on the Captains ledge of the ship waving and blowing kisses to the crowd gathered below. What a site to see. The crowd gathered was yelling and clapping and cheering. Everytime the captain sounded the ships horn the crowd yelled and cheered even more. All the magics portside balcony passengers were waving back at the crowds. Still in total disbelief. The Royal Caribbean Radience of the Seas was also in port. As we were leaving and passing her, Our captain gave the 3 horn blast. The radiance responded with a 3 horn blast. At that point they got into a my horn is louder than your horn competition. Back and forth, back and forth between the Magic and Radiance of the Seas. The final "when you wish upon a star" blast and the Radiance returned a small groan horn sound. almost everyone up and down the ship said "We Won" LOL, at the same time. Everyone on the ship and the dock area was still yelling and cheering. It was a totally amazing day. Curacao is nice, but we probably won't visit again.

After we were on our way out to see hubby and I went to rain forest, where again many of the things were not working. After that hubby headed off to see hitchhikers of the galaxy and I went to shutters to pick up our portraits. They were all so great I couldn't make up my mind, so I stacked them up for later to get hubby's opinion. We had done the lifestyle portraits the night before, on the white background, casual, no shoes..and they were excellent. Try them if you get a chance. It was now time to change for dinner. It was tropical night, I got hubby's clothes ready, I got dressed and headed down to get pictures with Lilo and Stitch. Met hubby, went to dinner, up to to check out deck party after that, then to bed. It had been a long day, nice but long.

Day at Sea

We slept in until around 7:30am. My leg was still a bit stiff from slippin in the caves in Curacao. Hubby called to see if we could move our couples massage to an earlier time, we were in luck, so we grabbed a quick bite adn headed to the spa for our stone massage. We both enjoyed the stone massage a lot. We headed back to cabin with tea and enjoyed it on our balcony. Hubby read for a while and I tried to get caught up on my journal. The lunch was Italian buffet today in Parrot Cay..nothing special..just ok. We checked our email and headed to auction preview to get our seats. This time we purchased a DCL booster seat for our grandaughter..lol, it would be autographed by Mickey then delivered to our stateroom. We also purchased the lifeboat drill mickey sign. The auctions are really a lot of fun..just to watch even..lol. We picked up our pictures at shutters and went to the martini tasting. The martini tasting was a blast. The two girls hosting had so much personality..they really made it fun. They gave us each 5 mini martinis..lol, although we had to drink them fairly quickly because they needed to wash the glasses and make the new ones..lol. They gave us the following to sample:
Blue dragon with lemon peel, apple cosmo with orange peel, rasberry with mint leave, chocolate with chocolate straw, dirty with a big olive. Hubby liked the dirty best, of course, I loved the chocolate. We got some great pictures with the giant martinis they were using for decoration. We headed to the atrium for pics with Captina Mickey and Sailor Minnie, Alice and Queen of hearts. Chatted a bit with some of the other dis'ers in line for pics and then headed back to rainforest to relax before dinner. We had an 8:10 auction appt to make payment for our most recent purchases. Dinner was great again, then off to bed.

Panama Canal Crossing

We were up at 5am and could see the lights in the distance. Pilot boat was just coming around the rear of the ship, and almost hit a very small both that was floating along in the dark with no lights or anything on it. You could hear the guys on the pilot boat yelling, I will assume, cussing at the guys in the very small unlit boat..lol. We through on some clothes and headed up to deck 10, found ourselves a spot to watch as we headed into the Gatun Locks. Took lots of pics. As we exited the Gatun Locks into Gatun lake we had to anchor for a bit until it was our turn to go. We ordered some room service and took a nap. We woke up just as it was time to enter the Pedro Miquel locks. The captain had said our balcony would be the best spot for this and he was right. The area was beautiful. There was a port authority office there, and lots of people ine up, waving to us. It was time for us to head down to the Crisp Poolside whites wine tasting. Some were pretty good, some we had tried before. The wine tasting ran very long and we were almost through the Mra Flores locks when we were done. We hurried back to our cabin and grabbed the camera for a few photos. We saw our tablemates on their balcony above us..we waved our fairy tale champagne at them and headed up to visit with them for a bit. They headed to the show, we went back to change for dinner then went to bed. What a great day. The panama canal experience can't be beat.

Day at Sea

We satred off with rainforest, on to Palo brunch where Marco was our server again. He brought us a ton of food, of course. We relaxed most of the day. I went to High Tea at Palo with a couple other dis'ers. That was very nice. It was semi-formal night..we didn't feel like getting dressed up, so we ordered room service and went to bed early.

Day at Sea

I slept in. Hubby started his day with a well being massage from Tony at the spa. He said Tony was great and requested him for our final massages before getting off the ship. We checked out our pictures at shutters and headed up to topsiders for lunch. It was a Pacific buffet lunch..food was very good. After lunch time to hurry downstairs to promenade lounge for auction preview. We picke up another small portrait..clowns, very nice. After that we relaxed in stateroom for a bit before heading off to see National Treasure in the Buena Vista Theatre. Back to room to get dressed for dinner, it was the around the world menu tonight. Then off to bed, for tomorrow we have Acapulco.

oh man, keep em coming. Thank you so much for your report. I watched the magic go through the canal on the webcams. But hearing from someone who was on the ship just completes it for me. :p How Jerry Maguire corny, but I am just loving your trip reports.

Did you buy a pass for the entire cruise? I have done this before and loved it and we are going on the August Repro, can you let me know how much it was?

Awesome reports, please keep em coming:)

Bernadette

Yes, we bought the rainforest pass for the entire cruise. It is $150 per person ($75 per week). No break in the cost at all for the two weeks you are on board.

I also slipped out on our verandah at 5:00am the morning of our canal crossing. I couldn't believe it when the Pilot boat came whipping around and shone a light on that tiny outboard. It was so dark on the water that I hadn't noticed it. I'm thinking "buddy, you're out in the middle of the ocean, it's pitch black and you're surrounded by huge ships. Do you have a death wish??!!" :earseek:

Much as I was tired from getting up so early (too excited to sleep), I'm glad that I was able to hang in there for the entire process. What an amazing experience it was!
